As a psychotherapist, I recognize that each course of treatment is subjective and unique. I work closely with each client in determining his or her treatment goals and respect each individuals right to self determination. Enhanced self esteem, improved coping skills, and a more confident decision making process are the foundation for a more joyful, less conflicted life. Together we will work to achieve these results.

I believe that therapy is most successful when there is mutual respect and trust between the therapist and client. I have successfully worked with families, teens, and adults from diverse sexual orientations, ethnicities, cultures, and religious backgrounds. Some of my clinical specialties include couples/family conflict, social and cultural stressors, anxiety, depression, trauma, and meaning making.

As we move through our life, we may come across challenges, barriers, or new experiences within our relationships, families, and our communities. I'm Dr. Ian Bonner, and I specialize in anxiety, depression, serving LGBTQ+ clients, substance use, and relationships. I also enjoy working with the kink community and supporting clients in open/poly relationships. As a counselor, I am challenging, collaborative, and compassionate in my approach to treatment. Clients who work with me understand from our first session that I work with more than just symptoms and problems; I treat the whole person. Many clients I see may feel “different” or invalidated by society at large, due to identity, gender, race, their body, queerness or relationship structures. I work to build a strong relationship that is affirming of who you are. Often our complexity of self is not well recognized or honored in the places and capacities in which we spend our days. In therapy, we can work to explore and integrate those complexities, histories, and fractured parts, to benefit from their wisdom and move forward in new ways. Eroticism is adult play: ideally it is expansive, vibrant, joyful, and stress-free. Living in a sex-shaming society damages our ability to have a loving, easy relationship to our erotic, sensual, and sexual identities. That damage can lead to conflict and disconnection with ourselves and our intimate others. Our relational health is a necessary ingredient in our overall life satisfaction. Most of us long for our intimate relationships to be a safe haven from the stress, overwhelm, and chaos of our lives. When that isn’t the case, it can lead us to feel lost, uneasy, and wondering how to find our way back to a feeling of security.

Serena uses a psychodynamic approach with an emphasis on integration of emotion, mind, and body experiences through an IFS lens. Serena has 17 years of various experiences in the treatment of trauma, anxiety, dissociation, attachment, grief, relationship challenges, depression, and life change transitions.
