When thinking about the clients I most enjoy working with I imagine the people who are willing to put in the work, even when it can be challenging. They want to know more about themselves, their experience and how to be the best version of themselves. Willing to explore how their experiences and relationships have shaped them over the years as well as how to heal from some of them as well. It can be difficult at times to determine exact goals prior to coming into therapy so we can figure those out together.

Some of the main issues I can help with are: depression, anxiety, stress, feeling overwhelmed, communication and conflict in relationships, family dynamics and generational patterns, self-worth, confidence, inner criticism, life transitions (parenthood, adolescence, separation, etc.), parenting support, shame, unmet needs, empowerment, and identity exploration.
Hi! My name is Migdalia. I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, and I provide therapy for individuals, families, and people in romantic relationships. I view the role of therapist not as someone who gives advice or tells you what to do, but as someone who helps guide you in getting more connected to yourself, feeling more confident in your decisions, and making sense of how your relationships, patterns, and past experiences shape what you’re dealing with today. I hold this role with deep honor, reverence, and a healthy serving of humor and authenticity.

You feel lost. Entirely alone in your struggles, like no one can understand what you’re going through. You desperately wish you had a better handle on things and feel like a failure for your shortcomings. But this problem isn’t unique. The experience is so common that there are memes about it. Everyone struggles; it’s perfectly normal. Of course, knowing that doesn’t make those thoughts and feelings go away. But that’s where we come in.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
