I am a master-level therapist who has over 20 years of experience working with individuals who struggle with maintaining optimal and balanced mental health. Mental well- being is at the heart of the work that I do. I believe that at some point in time we experience trauma or severe life stressors which can seriously impair our daily functionality. These experiences, although emotional in nature, have the propensity to negatively impact both emotional health and physical health. My passion is bringing understanding as well as healing to counteract the harmful effects of traumatic/stressful encounters which impact us.

Anxiety, depression, and stress can make everyday life feel overwhelming and unfair, and it makes sense to feel exhausted by constant worry, low mood, or tension. You might find it hard to sleep, focus, or enjoy things you used to, and asking for help can feel like a big step. Reaching out for support is a meaningful step toward feeling steadier and more hopeful. These challenges often affect work, relationships, and self-esteem, whether the worry comes in panic, persistent low mood, or chronic stress. Together we will explore what keeps these patterns going and build practical ways to feel more balanced and connected.

As a licensed marriage and family therapist, I am specifically trained to assist clients with various phases of relationships, such as pre-commitment, commitment, marital, separation, divorce, and co-parenting.
Clients I work with will present with a wide array of challenges, some of which include anxiety, depression, relational issues, and life transitions. While each client is unique, all clients are looking for change in some capacity. My job is to help my client(s) identify what is not working for them and instead explore what life looks like in absence of the problem(s).

Our therapists help with communication breakdowns, infidelity recovery, discernment counseling, divorce, anxiety, and depression.
Is your relationship in trouble — or are you just exhausted from trying to fix it alone? Maybe trust has been broken, communication has shut down, or you’re wondering if it’s even worth saving. Maybe you’re not in a relationship at all, but anxiety, depression, or a painful breakup has you stuck. You want a therapist who actually gets it — not someone who just nods and listens. At Solid Foundations Therapy, we work with couples and individuals across Downers Grove and throughout Illinois who are ready to do the hard work, not just talk about it. In-person and telehealth available.

Drawing from the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy, I offer practical tools for lasting change.

Divorce Therapists
How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?
Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?
There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?
When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
