For the children and adolescents I work with we teach the parents how to learn positive ways to help their child/ teen at home, so the progress continues long after therapy has ended.
When you work with me, it doesn't feel like "therapy". We work together to problem-solve and find strategies to ease their stress and improve behavior. I help you learn positive coping skills, so they feel more at ease mentally and physically. Knowing how to face difficult situations is a skill taught throughout life, but when dealing with difficult times we can sometimes forget how to use the skills we have been taught.

My experience as a social worker spans over thirty years. I have worked in a variety of venues with a wide range client population. My six specialties include adolescent and adult substance abuse, anger management, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and stress management. Additionally, I provide therapy for all of the issues, stated in this profile. Furthermore, I provide individual, couples counseling, family therapy, and group therapy. I am very aware that making the decision to get counseling, can be a very anxiety provoking situation. Can I expect confidentiality? What is the therapy experience like? Actually, taking the step to get counseling is a huge strength!

I specialize in adult/ teen depression, anxiety, ADHD and relationship/family issues. Response time 24 business hours to calls or emails. My first priority is to understand you as a person. If you are feeling hesitant about therapy, understand that this is normal: letting another person into your private space can be frightening. A good therapist, however, will accept you as you are, with all the good and the ugly. Courage!

In my practice I specialize in providing therapy to couples, families, men and adolescent males. My work with couples helps with conflict due to recurrent communication problems, infidelity, financial stresses, intimacy, etc. With families, we address lack of closeness, external pressures, trauma, and changes from maturity of children. My style is interactive and direct. As an older male, I am readily able to help with relational, parenting and career challenges. Men require a therapist who has journeyed through the vagaries of life understanding the attendant joys and failures.

I have a particular affinity for work with adolescent and adult males on emotional expressiveness, anger management, and social skills.
The late-great David Bowie captured one of life’s most enduring challenges when he dared us to “turn and face the straaange ch-ch-changes.” If only it were that easy, right? I am a change expert with over 15 years of experience helping people contend with anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, “I feel stuck”-ness, low self-esteem, and underachievement. My approach is interactive, down-to-earth, and peppered with humor and creativity. Feel free to contact me for a brief, no-charge phone consultation. If I’m not the ideal fit for you or your loved one, I’ll be happy to assist you in finding someone who is.

At Thrive Counseling & Wellness, I have had extensive experience working with adults who experience chronic anxiety, depression, chronic pain, stress, relationship problems, self-esteem issues, among others. I tend to take a client centered perspective; I utilize different therapies to suit each individual client's needs. It's not always about the specific theory but more about what can I do to assist the client in achieving the perspective, growth and success that they desire. My ultimate goal is to "walk with the client" as he/she processes, experiences and implements the tools needed to effect helpful change.

Central to my practice is the belief that all of us deserve respect no matter our histories, and have within ourselves the wisdom for peace and healing. Our individual journeys are at times celebratory and at other times heartbreaking. We may not always be able to choose the circumstances we face such as illness, or the end of a relationship. Instead, we can choose what we are going to do about our challenges. We can choose how to integrate this information into our overall life stories for greater joy, creativity, and balance.

Growing up isn't easy. Today's adolescents experience more stress, expectations, and worries than ever. My passion is helping people who are feeling stuck or overwhelmed, which can lead to depressive/anxious symptoms, and poor coping skills. I bring compassion, honesty, and humor into our sessions, creating a safe, trusting space. I believe in the resiliency everyone has to work through challenges. I include parents and the child in our work, a crucial piece for consistency in communication, and navigating the increasing stressors kids face. On a personal note, I'm also a mom, and can empathize with daily demands of family life.

Teen Therapists
Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can raise questions of independence and identity; as adolescents cultivate their sense of self, they may face difficult choices about academics, friendship, sexuality, gender identity, drugs, and alcohol.

Most teens have a relatively egocentric perspective on life; a state of mind that usually abates with age. They often focus on themselves and believe that everyone else—from a best friend to a distant crush—is focused on them too. They may grapple with insecurities and feelings of being judged. Relationships with family members often take a backseat to peer groups, romantic interests, and appearance, which teens perceive as increasingly important during this time.

The transition can naturally lead to anxiety about physical development, evolving relationships with others, and one's place in the larger world. Mild anxiety and other challenges are typical, but serious mental health conditions also emerge during adolescence.
