I provide education and intervention for depression, anxiety and various behavioral disruptions such as
relational
/marital conflict, emotional upheavals, deterioration in everyday functioning, disordered eating, unwanted impulses, anger, etc.
Gain the ability to communicate needs, relate better, feel better and improve circumstances. I offer a psychological and educational approach to both counseling and psychotherapy. For over 30 years as psychotherapist I help clients understand the psychological dynamics underlying problems and difficulties. Change is easier and more effective when we better understand our emotions and behaviors. Especially the behaviors, thoughts and emotions that arise when relating to others. Whether through in-depth individual analysis or counseling for marriage, divorce or family issues, clients gain awareness and deeper understanding of the source and purpose of their feelings, thoughts and behaviors.

Struggles are a normal part of life and sometimes we get stuck. I create a safe, comfortable environment for my clients that facilitates healing and growth. I value the
relational
connections that are developed through counseling. Working hand in hand with my clients, we combine my training and experience with their expertise about who they are, what brought them in and where they want to go. I help people find comfort in their emotions, equipping them with skills and insight in order to manage and benefit from them, rather than be controlled by them.

Rooted in a Family Systems approach, I have experience with depression, anxiety, loss/grief, life changes, infidelity,
relational
distress, blended families, co-parenting and stress management.
At any time in our lives, we may experience distance between where we are and where we'd like to be. Obstacles can sometimes stand in our way, and prevent us from achieving and living the life that we long for. I work with individuals and couples in a collaborative process to explore these obstacles, and to challenge old patterns and beliefs that may no longer be necessary, while finding new ways of thinking and living. With much compassion and understanding, I work with clients to facilitate healing and growth, grounded in a desire to empower others to achieve their goals, and to be brave, while deeply-rooted in hope.

We may aim for the physical-psychological-
relational
-spiritual being to pursue health.
Sometimes life makes it feel like there are limited options, and our feelings can be overwhelming. However, in the face of pain and suffering, we have the power to choose how to engage with these hardships. There is freedom to choose our responses, and moving forward with committed action is empowering. I would be happy to collaborate with you in the therapeutic process, to explore feelings, learning coping skills, and maintain healthy responses. In life we may feel content being still, making lateral moves, or at times pivoting. As we navigate your views of self, thriving, living we can face carpe diem, pluck the day.

relational
approach and enjoy collaborating with other sources of support in my clients' lives.
I work with children, teenagers, and young adults who have survived traumatic experiences or are dealing with behavioral-based, emotional disorders, school stress, identity formation, and relationship concerns. I value incorporating parents and caregivers in their child's therapy, as well as working with families through divorce, grief, and life transitions. In addition, I perform diagnostic evaluations for individuals of all ages including cognitive, emotional, social, and personality assessments that can be used to inform therapeutic intervention and gain resources outside of therapy.

Anxiety, depression, and
relational
conflicts are what I and my associates' work with Most. Life is a journey with many transitions. Each one of the transition means going from something we know to something we don't. We are excited or apprehensive about what our future holds for us. And, we can be relieved or sad about what or who we are leaving. These life transitions can be challenging or enriching. Whatever they are they can be stressful. Behavioral health providers focus on being a guide to help you on your journey to understand and choose the right path for you while supporting you in your process of change.

I work with adults who are struggling with depression and change of life issues (i.e., job loss, divorce, illness), and in particular those who are experiencing grief and loss. I have a great deal of experience working with the aging adult population and the issues that accompany this phase of life. I believe that most issues have an associated spiritual component to them, and if the client wishes to incorporate spirituality into the therapeutic work, I am comfortable doing so. The short term goal of therapy is symptom reduction, while the long-term goal is transformation.

Life is a journey with unexpected challenges and changes, but it is also full of opportunities for growth and self-discovery. While some people struggle with fear and anxiety related to life transitions, others may struggle with feeling stuck in their lives, permanently on "autopilot" and feeling powerless to make a change. I am here to join you on a path of self-reflection and positive change, so that you can discover your inner strengths and build a life more congruent with your true values and goals.

Relational Therapists
How does relational therapy work?
Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.
Is relational therapy evidence-based?
Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.
How long are people typically in relational therapy?
Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.
Does relational therapy work?
While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
