My ideal client is someone who is committed to working toward real and lasting change. Someone willing to learn that change does not just come from a behavioral switch. Real growth happens when a person's heart engages in the process and understands, internally, first. Each person needs to participate in their counseling; not just be an observer/consumer. I am committed to make each session a safe environment to learn the how and why of engaging in counseling; what it will require to achieve this; and then walk alongside with each client to make these empowering transformations.

How many times have you looked at this website? (Yea, me too. I wondered if this would be the best way to connect with clients). And now you are trying to find a good therapist–someone who will relate to you. Let me start off by stating how important I think mental health is to the well-being of an individual. I believe that it colors everything that one does. While life isn’t always perfect, one can look at life- process, develop options and just try it out. It really isn’t clear cut like that and processing takes time. Maybe that is why I am in this field–to help people to look at their lives and to make their lives better.

Life can be complex and ever changing bringing us moments that impact our human experience. These human experiences can be anywhere between being joyful, beautiful, challenging, mediocre, and overwhelming. Counseling is a unique process that can help you find meaning within these experiences and give you a space where your story is heard. As a trauma-informed counselor, I work to create a safe and affirming atmosphere where clients feel understood and fully accepted for who they are. I believe that an authentic and empathic therapeutic relationship is one of the most crucial attributes to healing and growth.

I work very well with clients who struggle with managing stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem or relationship issues. Common examples of issues that these clients face are trouble setting boundaries, feeling overwhelmed, relationship issues, lack of self-esteem or difficulty managing their emotions. These clients are hoping to increase their coping skills in these areas and want resources to assist in navigating their symptoms or need a safe and nonjudgmental space to talk things through. Evaluating all aspects of life through a collaborative relationship, we can work to decide how my client can live a thriving, healthy life.

I have worked as a mental health practitioner for over 10 years. I began my career working with adolescents with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health needs in an inpatient treatment setting. I continued working with a variety of populations including homeless and at-risk families with children with mental health disorders. In 2013 I was an intern at the Orange County Health Care Agency's Anaheim clinic for the severely and persistently mentally ill, where I provided case management services, conducted crisis intervention services and behavioral health assessments both in the clinic and while in the field.

It's all about change. If you're here, you're either struggling with one or looking for one. Maybe you're finding your life isn't turning out the way you expected, you've experienced grief or loss or you're tired of that feeling inside. Maybe you're struggling with a relationship and trying to figure out if its you, them, or if it's the World. Maybe you keep making that same mistake or can't stop the habit. Maybe you're feeling alone and are looking to be understood or to understand yourself.

Alcohol Use Therapists
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
