In addition to the couples work that I do in conjunction with my wife, I also specialize in working with men struggling with a multitude of issues including communication issues, mood disorders, relationship problems, career transitions, and addictions.
Couples therapy has been found to be least effective of all therapies, thus it is important for clients to seek out therapists who are versed in the latest research on couples and marital therapy. The unique couples approach I co-created with my wife, called the Couples Synergy model, has helped thousands of couples internationally for over 25 years.

Feeling stuck or overwhelmed in ministry? Maybe you’re a pastor, ministry leader, or Christian who’s facing burnout, feeling isolated, or struggling with the weight of expectations. It can feel like no one truly understands the unique pressures you’re under. Or perhaps you’ve experienced hurt or betrayal in a church setting, leaving you questioning your faith and your place in ministry. I get it, I am ordained myself and served in pastoral ministry in inner city London for over a decade before becoming a counselor. These are hard, lonely spaces to navigate, and it’s easy to feel lost or like you’re running on empty.

Personally, I know how difficult it was for me to get out of bed when suffering from depression and anxiety and to go about the everyday when concerned about having another panic attack. I know how valuable it was for me to have someone to talk to that wouldn't judge me or make me feel guilty about being exactly where I was at the time. The idea of "you should be fine", or "you have no reason to be anxious or depressed" is hurtful and doesn't help.

Guiding others to discover meaning and value in their experiences is something I take great pride in. We can often learn more about ourselves and I believe we can more effectively adjust to our unique circumstances through this discovery. It is critical to have an understanding of the beliefs we have of ourselves, others, and the world, as well as where these beliefs began and what purpose they serve. Through increased awareness, we can learn to navigate challenging thoughts, emotions, and sensations in the body with less of a challenge.

The therapeutic relationship and the experiences it fosters serves as a type of mirror—it’s a safe space to explore oneself. My role is to hold space, ask pertinent questions, and listen to you completely. My approach is one of collaboration. I might be an "expert" in mental health, but you're the expert of YOU. We'll co-create therapeutic goals, partner together in devising a plan to achieve your goals, and give space for your expansion and evolution.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
