It can be difficult to reach out for help at times. It shows bravery and strength and may take personal motivation to do so. Reaching out is that first step showing you have what takes to heal. I will meet you at your point of need. I help clients like you develop the skills needed to create change, accomplish goals, and live a healthier happier life. With success we begin to change our beliefs that were creating hardship to ones that create growth, health, confidence, and acceptance. I strive to treat every person as family with a warm, compassionate approach.

I have experience working with persons suffering from
anxiety
, depression, substances use, relationship issues, divorce, grief and transgender dysphoria.
I am a licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois. Since I acquired my license I have worked with a variety of people, those with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use. I have previously worked for the court system and in private practice. I am paneled to accept seven different types of insurance companies. My experience has helped me realize that individuals are not an illness or a label but rather persons with extenuating factors that contribute to the reasons for seeking help.

Personally, I know how difficult it was for me to get out of bed when suffering from depression and
anxiety
and to go about the everyday when concerned about having another
panic
attack. I know how valuable it was for me to have someone to talk to that wouldn't judge me or make me feel guilty about being exactly where I was at the time. The idea of "you should be fine", or "you have no reason to be anxious or depressed" is hurtful and doesn't help.

anxiety
or mood changes, due to major life transitions, are trauma-related, or you just need someone to talk about your daily life, I am here to offer the space for you to grow, discover, heal, and succeed.

Is
anxiety
and stress getting the best of you? Perhaps your mood has been down and you’re feeling overwhelmed and are unsure of what to do to feel better. Life transitions, such as getting married or divorced, having a baby, moving, getting a new job or losing one, or having a serious illness, can be really stressful and lead to
anxiety
or a depressed mood. You feel like you should be able to cope with these changes or maybe that you’re overreacting. You just want to feel better and more in control.

You are not perfect. You are human. It's okay to ask for help. Rally during difficult times in your life, confront uncomfortable feelings, make the difficult decisions, and be confident in it all! My personal philosophy is that therapy IS NOT meant to be easy. You are here to get outside of your comfort zone. You are here to grow. I will push you, hold you accountable, encourage you to take risks, set boundaries and overcome your
fears
. “Daring Greatly: the courage to be vulnerable, to show up and be seen. To ask for what you need, to talk about how you’re feeling, and to have the hard conversations.” Dr. Brene Brown.

We all go through life difficulties that affect us deeply and can leave us feeling alone or ashamed and off the path to fulfilling our hopes, dreams, and life goals. The "get over it" and "move on" mentality may leave you feeling temporarily more comfortable, but inevitably, the heavy weight of your struggles overflows into your daily life affecting you and your loved ones in ways that you never wanted or intended. No longer do you need to remain held back by your
anxiety
, depression, or other life difficulties.

Do
anxiety
, trauma and uncertainty run your life more than your values and dreams? Do you relive the past as if it were happening right now? Your head knows better, but it's hard to convince your heart otherwise. Perhaps you feel stuck in not knowing how to move through distressing events of your past which is impacting your present day functioning. If this resonates with you, I would encourage you to take that brave first step in reaching out for support! There is hope and you don’t have to walk this journey alone.

I have worked with many individuals including adults struggling with
anxiety
, depression, alternative sexual lifestyles, and trauma as well as teens having difficulty with body image and self-esteem issues, relationship problems, suicidal ideation/self-injury, and LGBTQ issues.
I operate on the notion that everybody has the ability to be their best self. However, this often comes with many of life's obstacles and defeating such obstacles can be challenging. I can help individuals restore their confidence to overcome hardships and rediscover the tools to finding happiness. I help my clients identify specific barriers to achieving their goals and help work through them to regain the ability to lead a fulfilling life.

You can feel better! Imagine what life would be like if you felt free of
anxiety
, anger, and depression. Any difficult emotion or situation you may be struggling with can cause you to feel "stuck" and helpless. The negative thoughts and unhelpful behavior patterns you fall into create obstacles and challenges in your life. All of that can be changed. You can meet your goals and live a happy successful life. I would like to help you make that happen. Together we will identify the thoughts and behaviors that create misery instead of happiness.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
