I believe every person has a unique story worth understanding. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a master’s degree in Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from Idaho State University. Before becoming a counselor, I served as a Christian minister in the Northwestern United States and South America, and prior to that as a teacher. Those experiences shaped my appreciation for cultural diversity, personal values, and the many ways our life experiences influence who we are and how we connect with others.

I support individuals navigating addiction, anxiety, and neurodivergence, as well as those walking through major life transitions. My ideal clients are often seeking more than symptom relief, they are looking to reconnect with their innate wisdom and find a grounded sense of direction. In our work, I integrate transpersonal psychology with somatic regulation, DBT, and nature-based mindfulness. Whether through traditional clinical dialogue, sound-supported meditation, or experiential outdoor sessions, clients can bridge the gap between where they are and where they feel called to be. Together, we create a path toward internal peace.

Life brings unexpected change, loss, and seasons of pain that can leave us feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck. Many people cope by shutting down, staying busy, or avoiding what hurts but healing begins when we have a safe place to slow down and be honest.

Life can be tough all on its own and when you add traumatic experiences the world can feel stacked against you. Maybe you are just struggling with something that you could use some help sorting through. Perhaps you feel distant from your partner and want to improve your relationship. I can help. I work with individuals, couples and families who are experiencing life adjustment struggles, anxiety, depression, ADHD, infidelity, PTSD and other traumas. I want to create a non judgmental space where we can work together to facilitate healing through balance in life, growth in relationships, and improved family dynamics.

You’re used to holding everything together—but underneath, it’s exhausting. I work with high-functioning adults across Idaho who are dealing with burnout, anxiety, and the impact of trauma. Many of my clients appear “fine” on the outside, but internally feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected. Many of the clients I work with are high-functioning adults who look like they’re managing on the outside, but internally feel overwhelmed, stuck, or exhausted. They’ve often tried to push through, manage on their own, or even been in therapy before—yet something still isn’t shifting.

Hi. My name is Brian Raymond. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Idaho and have been practicing in the Treasure Valley in various therapeutic environments since 2007. I know how helpful it can be to get a feel for someone before making the decision to schedule an appointment with them. Deciding to get started with a new counselor can be nerve wracking for some so I want to do anything I can to ease that anxiety before our first session.

Positively or negatively, how one feels effects the chemistry and electricity of every cell in the body as emotions function as a regulatory system in the body. Moreover, the body is unable to differentiate whether chronic stress is physically driven or emotionally driven, but the unmediated end result is the same: toxic thoughts and chronic stress negatively affect the expression of the DNA (epigenetics) impacting mental, physical, emotional, and social health.

Counseling can be a journey that many struggle to start and even fewer commit to the end of treatment. I strive to work with clients so that they can achieve concrete, measurable goals and learn skills that will follow them outside of the counseling office. If you are ready to make meaningful change, work through difficult emotions and start an alliance towards healing then please reach out.

Is your relationship suffering because of sexual behaviors that feel out of control? Maybe you’ve been living with a secret, compulsive pornography use, infidelity, or other patterns of sexual acting out that is slowly eroding the trust in your most important relationships. Or perhaps you’re the partner who’s just discovered the betrayal and are now left reeling, unsure where to turn, overwhelmed by pain, confusion, and grief. Sexual addiction and betrayal trauma can feel isolating and filled with shame, but healing is possible.

After maintaining a full caseload, I am currently accepting a limited number of new clients beginning June 2026. I am passionate about helping clients feel empowered in the process of change and personal growth. Negative thought patterns can significantly impact emotional well-being, relationships, decision-making, and overall quality of life. Anxiety, depression, trauma, and chronic stress often become reinforced through cycles of self-criticism, fear, and emotional overwhelm, making it difficult to move forward with confidence and clarity.

You’ve been the strong one for so long. The one who keeps it together, handles the chaos, manages others’ emotions, and pushes through. But lately, that inner critic is getting louder, the anxiety is heavier, and the exhaustion feels bone-deep. You’re thoughtful, self-aware, and probably pretty good at figuring things out. You may understand why you feel the way you do, recognize your patterns, and be able to explain what’s happening—but still find yourself stuck in the same cycles. If you’re someone who has spent a lot of time understanding yourself but is ready to experience yourself differently, therapy may be a place to begin!

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
