I am a marriage and family therapist who works with couples, families, and individuals where addiction has disrupted their lives.
I believe each client is unique and possesses the strength and resources to improve and heal themselves. Sometimes we need help from others to accomplish our goals and make changes in our lives to become our most congruent self. Congruence is harmony of the body, mind, and soul.

I have lived in Idaho for over 15 years & have 6 children. I am both an adventurer & treasure hunter at heart. I love working to help people achieve their ideal self. Many people have goals and hopes that they wish to accomplish, and often times these objectives are complicated by challenges they are currently facing or have faced in the past. I believe that the individual is the catalyst for change in their life, and my position as a counselor is to help them identify those resources that they have used in the past as well as employ new resources.

I specialize in working with adults and couples navigating interpersonal conflict. Coming from a family systems perspective, I recognize that we are all part of a larger whole—what we do impacts and influences those around us. Healthy relationships are built on communication, boundaries, and mutual respect. I’m here to help you develop some of those skills and identify the barriers that may be hindering that.

Helping clients to face life's challenges and live authentically is my favorite part of therapy. I have also been trained to work with betrayal trauma and can help in the process of healing from the betrayal of a partner addicted to sex or pornography.

I like clients that are unique, meaning I enjoy people's differences. I tend to create the treatment plan around the client and their needs rather than a cookie cutter type of treatment plan. I work with a wide range of clients from children and adolescents to couples therapy.

In my professional practice, I work closely with couples, individuals, and families who are striving to navigate their various difficulties and obstacles. I am a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with the State of Idaho.
If you’re looking for a therapist who will be relentlessly optimistic about your chances for therapeutic change, then I’m your guy! A key element to change, growth, adaptation, evolution, however we want to refer to it, is to BELIEVE that it is possible – to have hope. I wouldn’t be in the business (or the enormous amount of student debt) I’m in if I didn’t believe in it, or if I didn't believe in you. You are the expert on your life and your experiences. I’m an expert on therapy stuff. Together, we'll be a team of experts attacking the problem head-on.

I have years of experience with anxiety, depression, marital discord, trauma, and unwanted pornography use.
The human experience exposes us to many stressors, traumas, and anxieties. Seeking help to overcome and manage the symptoms these experiences can bring, is the first step in one's therapeutic journey. While this process can be overwhelming, and uncomfortable, identifying the right person to help manage these emotions is an important part of the journey. I value providing a non-judgmental space that allows clients to explore their emotions and start towards new growth and healing.

I taught masters-level courses in marriage and family therapy and mental health counseling at a large university for several years.
Immediate availability. I've been at this a while and I can help you. I like to get to the core concerns and help you fix what isn't working. I work with people who are motivated to make changes, not passively "try" therapy. I am compassionate by nature and my clients appreciate my straightforward and down-to-earth style. I work with men and the people frustrated with them. My expertise is in helping you restore relationships, but after you've first fixed the one with yourself. I'm a great listener, but you're going to like what I have to say, I promise. I do not accept insurance.

I have a bachelors degree in Psychology from Weber State University and a masters degree in Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling from Idaho State University.
I prioritize creating a safe environment where challenges and emotions can be openly explored. In my work with couples, I operate from an emotionally focused lens to help partners be accessible, responsive, and engaged with one another as they uncover the emotional underpinnings of their interactions. With individuals, I often use techniques from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), internal family systems (IFS), and narrative therapy. I help individuals cultivate curiosity, compassion, and confidence as they navigate life’s challenges.

I earned master's and doctorate degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy.
You got married full of hope—excited to build a life together. But now, it feels like that dream is slipping away. After years of trying, you feel lost. You’ve tried to communicate your needs, to be patient, believed it would get better—but no matter what, you both end up stuck in the same painful patterns. Maybe you feel like: “Nothing I do is ever good enough,” “They don’t appreciate me,” “I don't matter to my partner.” Or maybe there’s been a breaking point—a fight that cut too deep, a betrayal that left you in agony—and now you’re left wondering if you can ever rebuild. Something has to change, but can therapy actually help?

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
