My passion however, is working with those struggling with low
self esteem
, and aiming to manage their anxiety, depression, and ADHD.
Counseling can be both an exciting and scary adventure kind of like getting on a rollercoaster, delighted for the ride but filled with butterflies. You’re looking for acceptance, and connection. You feel unloved, alone, or fight to understand your emotions. You desire the ability to stand up for yourself, create healthy relationships, and set boundaries. With the ever-growing pressure of societal expectations, you aim for perfection but often fall short of the finish line. The word balance brings hope; you ache for the ability to feel firmly rooted in who you are, gracefully adjust to change, and find steadiness in your thoughts.

*** Not accepting new clients *** I truly believe that we all do the best we can and that we always have options and room for growth. As a counselor, I employ the use of an integrative approach which assists clients in their process of working through and with life experiences. I enjoy brainstorming with the client; to identify goals, learn and practice skills that enhance their individual abilities in a healthy manner. Such therapy is particularly well-suited to people, couples, and families who are struggling with life transitions, and have a genuine desire to pursue personal and professional growth.

Most of my clients identify as high achievers, type A, people pleasers, or perfectionists struggling with one or more relationships in their lives. Stress feels unmanageable and my clients might be tired of people walking on them or struggling to say no. I help clients identify unhealthy, manipulative or controlling behavior (which may include narcissistic patterns of emotional abuse). I teach clients skills to communicate more directly, identify red flags, set boundaries, build self-esteem, balance stress, and safety plan if/when you decide to leave the relationship(s). I offer support whether you choose to stay or leave.

Accepting new patients! I help teens, preteens and young adults learn how to cope with life stressors so that they can be happier in their personal and family lives. Most teens and young adults struggle with becoming overwhelmed and not sure how to deal with all the emotions that come up for them. So much is changing so quickly, and it can be difficult to feel like you are keeping up with the constant transitions.

People seek therapy for many reasons, but most people have one common goal: change. They want a change in how they feel, think, behave or in how they are treated. They want to be truly heard, understood and validated by someone who won't judge or criticize them. They want to heal from their past and feel hopeful about their future. This is exactly what I strive to provide to every client. I’ve helped clients with various presenting concerns including: anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, trauma, relationship and family issues, panic attacks, grief, self-harm, stress and more.

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.
What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.
What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.
How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
