When problems arise, we often get stuck in vicious cycles of feeling a certain way, believing certain things about ourselves and others and then doing the same unhelpful things over and over again. And sometimes this all catches us off guard and we are not even aware of how we got to this point or why it happened, and that is okay. We know that life is sometimes messy and therapy can be daunting but together you will work with Cindy to build a shared understanding of this pattern and then make small changes to interrupt the cycle. This work often leads to feeling better, improved relationships and acquiring healthy coping skills.

At times we become trapped in repeating negative patterns, unable to achieve our goals. Life feels meaningless, lonely and cold. Clarity and direction needed for the pursuit of happiness is lost in the weight of the day blocking the energy needed for change and growth. Lost in this mindset we fill every space with condemning thoughts and fruitless behaviors. These thought patterns result in no room for healthy, life affirming emotion. Whatever we use to numb from the dark, also numbs out the light.

Welcome! I know that taking your first steps into finding a therapist can seem like a daunting task. Every therapist is slightly different, so the most important thing that you can do is to find a therapist who is right for you. Personally, I believe that therapy works best when we are able to work together in a friendly, collaborative environment, where you can feel seen, heard, and known. I also believe that there is no “one size fits all” model, and therefore I tailor my therapy sessions to each client's individual needs.

We each have a story to tell. Our stories shape our perceptions of the past and our feelings for the future. It is empowering when we can tell our stories. My approach is to recognize your strengths, honor your innate wisdom, and provide a place for you to tell your story in an atmosphere of warmth, understanding, and acceptance. Through this process you will find opportunities to gain insight and resolve difficulties, and may discover a renewed sense of purpose and meaning in your life. Therapy is a creative and collaborative process and one that I hope you will enjoy.

Your partner complains that you are too disorganized and scattered. In fact, they complain they have to be your private secretary. It’s impossible to find anything. You missed another dentist appointment and now they won’t even let you make another. Your boss yelled at you for being late again. Or if you are a student, you forgot to turn in the homework assignment. Nobody seems to have much sympathy and now people seem annoyed at you. Your financial situation is also precarious. You explode at people you love. You don't know how much longer you can keep your life moving forward and negative thoughts toward yourself keep growing.

We each have a purpose in life. We deserve to feel and be safe. During our most challenging times along with the many changes and stressors we encounter through our life journey, including past trauma, grief/loss, poor self-acceptance, mental health challenges, and now the current pandemic, we may begin to feel lost and confused. Moving forward may seem impossible, making us feel stuck. We can get caught in a power struggle with our emotions, trapped in our own discomfort and chaos and this may no longer benefit us. Together, we can work at creating healthier changes, life patterns to return you to the quality of life you deserve.

Perhaps the essence of all your mental and emotional pain resides in the inability to love yourself. Thus, it's essential to identify and uncover all the barriers that stand in your way. At any given moment, you have the option of stepping forward into something new and unfamiliar or backward into the reassurance of familiarity. My role is to foster in you the risk to grow while honoring the courage to forfeit safety. I'm eager to explore what holds you back in life and deeply invested in guiding you towards greater balance and authenticity.

My counseling practice is called Trailworks Counseling because together we will improve well-being through modern therapy and outdoor activity. If you suffer anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, or you are having relationship struggles, we can work through those issues by forming a positive, authentic connection and bring shifts toward clarity and wisdom. Sessions couple Rapid Resolution Therapy with the inherent healing power of our trails as an alternative "office" setting. This approach has been successful in helping clients quiet the mind and feel empowered through inner peace. Call to set up a free minute consultation!

Currently accepting Emergency Responders (Police officers, Fire Fighters, and Paramedics) and Military Members for individual and couples counseling. My passion is supporting those who support and serve our local, national and global community, with an approach that is direct, educational, and humorous (Okay, attempts at humor...mostly poking fun at myself). I educate my clients on the nervous system and the impact their work has on the brain and body. I utilize EMDR for a variety of concerns, and especially to help clear out some of the critical incidences you all run into in your line of work.

For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to work with teenagers. Since obtaining my Masters of Social Work at the University of California, Berkeley in 1987, I have worked with teens in multiple settings. I have discovered that counseling can help teenagers with the most important tasks of adolescence. I work collaboratively with parents towards the primary goal of seeing their teenager launch successfully into adulthood. I am direct and honest and emphasize accountability and personal responsibility. I have found that teenagers appreciate that approach.

I am currently taking new Clients. I believe that we are far more than what we present to others. Along the journey, we sometimes lose touch with our authentic self. This loss reveals itself in many ways: Dissatisfaction in relationships, Questions about career/vocation, Feelings of depression/anxiety, eating too much or too little, Lack of confidence, Uncertainty about life choices, Physical/emotional weariness, Spiritual confusion and Disillusionment. I hold a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Northwest University and additional intensive Masters Study in Human Relationships. My undergrad degree is in Education with emphasis in health: body, mind and spirit.

Life is complicated for teenagers these days, and it has become more complicated for parents as well. Anxiety, depression, social problems, and defiance are common struggles for teens. I specialize in working with adolescents struggling with these types of emotional, behavioral, and self esteem issues as well as the parenting challenges that often accompany these issues. I have twenty years of experience, and I focus on helping teens and parents learn straightforward and effective ways to introduce change into their lives. Additionally, I provide marriage counseling, and I also work with adults on general life issues.

How can I find a therapist in Boise?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
