Specialities include: Relationships, Medical Art Therapy, Cancer, Stroke and Dementia support groups, Lifestyle changes, Bereavement /pre- bereavement , Terminal illness, 1st time placement to Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF) or Assisted Living (ALF), Loss of independence and Corporate team building.
I use Art & Photo Therapy techniques, play therapy and sand tray. Words alone are not enough to express what you feel. All humans remember in the form of images and attach those images to emotional responses. This is especially true when people are faced with the complex issues of grief , violence, abuse, neglect or coping with a disability. That is why Art therapy needs to become an integral part of the treatment. Art therapy gives you a voice to express a wide range of emotions and helps you work through conflicts & traumas. (Any age or issues and NO ART SKILLS NEEDED. )

NOTE: I am currently available for phone or facetime sessions if those are prefered. My style is informal, direct and intuitive. I use humor and common sense to figure out what's wrong and how to fix it. I am in the performing arts and my counseling sessions are held in my studio with all my music equipment and my dog. Most of my clients are dealing with issues related to relationships, self esteem, grief , or anxiety. I work with individuals/couples/families, adults and children. I am 100% freelance so I don't accommodate no-shows or constant rescheduling.

I have experience working with many types of issues in my practice, but bring a special understanding to grief related to the loss of a loved one who is still breathing, as well as anxiety, trauma, and grief .
It takes courage to seek help and I admire those who do. Although I have worked with people with various issues through the years; trauma, grief , estrangement, anxiety and mood-related issues are primary interests. I enjoy working with teens, adults, and couples. Although I am trained in several approaches, I don't believe in a "one size fits all" approach to therapy. As a trained CCTP (Certified Clinical Trauma Professional), many of the skills I have gained through training apply to people with various life difficulties and challenges.

I am a LCPC in Boise, Idaho and have experience working with individuals, couples, addictions, past trauma, anxiety, refugees, grief and loss , mood disorders, depression, gender issues, and much more.
My counseling philosophy involves allowing a client to be themselves and working to meet them "wherever they may be on their own self discovery journey". I have been in the counseling field for over 20 years and have tremendous experience working with several populations. I have learned that individuals have the innate capacity to grow and become their best selves, given an environment in which they can do so. Asking for help to do this can be very difficult. Regardless of the obstacles in your life, you have the capacity to move forward.

Trauma, loss , interpersonal struggles, life stressors, and emotional pain are hardships everyone faces in some form, but each individual is impacted differently. Counseling can offer a safe and inclusive space that treats each person as a unique individual and allows them to feel heard, validated, and respected. Although I can help provide guidance and insight, I believe that you are the expert of you. Counseling can be a space to process your emotions and experiences while gaining empowerment, confidence, and the tools to make changes and decisions on your own.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
