When we experience trauma, life stressors, or times of crisis it is common to find ourselves struggling with anxiety, depression, or relationship issues. Often, we hold deep beliefs about ourselves or others that do not serve us. These beliefs may hold us back from our best life. I work to facilitate healing in those who are struggling to find peace with themselves and in their relationships. I believe our relationships affect our lives in nearly every aspect. Healthy relationships are born from healthy individuals. Therefore, I enjoy working with both individuals and couples in the quest for optimum mental and emotional health.

I believe strongly in self-determination, that we are the authorities in our own lives, and that we all have the ability to discover the solutions to our struggles and reach the best versions of ourselves given the proper support and resources. I believe the relationship between therapist and client is the most important part of the healing process in therapy and I strive to create a non-judgmental, safe space that will foster those relationships even with differing life experiences, viewpoints, values, and beliefs.

Hello, I'm Cathleen Rodriguez LPC-5955. Counseling is the unique journey of one person’s self-discovery, acceptance, forgiveness and act of letting go in order to obtain the potential they desire (which already resides within them) through the utilization of skills and tools taught to them by the counselor. The counselor is the facilitator of change and health improvement. Counseling involves the whole person, not just one aspect of who they are, have been or will be in the future.

In my 11 years of experience as a counselor, I understand how challenging it can be to ask for help. I want to work together towards your goals. My role is to create a safe and warm environment for clients who are going through challenges. My office is a space that provides privacy and confidentiality. I enjoy working with different types of people and have facilitated support groups for women and LBGTQ communities. My focus is on wellness and hope for a healthier life. I am down to earth and grew up in a small town. I stay away from using clinical language and use humor when it is appropriate.

The Wildflower Intuitive Center is a place for parents and other familial caregivers that are navigating the journey of raising a medically fragile and complex child. My name is Coriesue Cook, and I am honored to work with medically fragile families in the Treasure Valley. Many of our parents are caring for children with unique and complex medical needs. This care requires family members to go above and beyond typical parenting. Parents often experience feelings of isolation, stress and vicarious medical trauma. This is a practice designed to support this unique experience. Clinical supports are available for children as needed.

Feeling like you’re surviving instead of living? Keep finding yourself in a similar spot? Feel stuck? Being human can be difficult & messy. Our families, friends & environments aren’t always what we’d choose, & in trying to navigate what we are dealt, our minds have many natural tendencies that can unintentionally contribute to our suffering. Yet we also have the potential to teach the mind other ways of doing/ being & help it help us move towards the lives we most want to live. Together we can learn how to connect to that power & work WITH the complex aspects of our humanity to create more space for enjoyment & meaning, fun & ease.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
