I have worked with a wide variety of clients, and I specialize in working with members of the LGBTQ+ community,
women
, and teens.
I am a compassionate and encouraging therapist and an attentive listener. I understand how hard it can be to seek help or to open up to a new person. I provide a safe and nonjudgmental situation in which to process anything you might need to. I believe that counseling is the process of working toward understanding yourself to have a happy and fulfilled life. I really enjoy helping others through that process.

When you meet with me, you are meeting a Black
woman
who is another human being navigating life alongside you.
I approach counseling as a mixture of all of my experiences that I have had, and with the knowledge and skills I have gained from my training and additional learning. I believe that the relationship we build in the counseling room is one that transcends the traditional media depiction of therapy- as your counselor my role is to help you explore your concerns, to help you find your own conclusions and make connections, and to help you utilize that new knowledge or those new skills to achieve whatever goals you set out to achieve.

My primary passion & skill is in working with couples,
women
, & anxiety. Firstly, I can relate. I am a (military)wife of 11 years & a mother of 3 young children. I know personally the difficulties that come with this, as well as the working mother. I have also stayed at home with my children & I get that as well. I clearly remember being a college student & the unique challenges of that period of life. I have had my own journey with severe anxiety & God has helped me heal and grow from it. I am hope and future-focused, I'll help you walk towards the person you have always wanted to be & the full, abundant life God desires for you!

Powerful
women
need powerful support. Over the years I've developed a specialty working with
women
who have achieved a lot in their lives/careers, but need a little boost when it comes to self-confidence, relationships, and personal goals. Imposter syndrome, perfectionism, and self-defeating thought patterns can hijack your happiness in life. Let's work together on eliminating those habits and creating new, empowered ways of thinking and living.

While I deeply value my work with everyone I see, I offer special support to
women
, people who are socially disempowered, those with experiences of family addiction, and both traditional/non-traditional college students.
Hello, I'm Dr. Yoder - Please note, I currently have a waitlist for new clients, and sliding scale slots are full. Seeking growth is a brave (and usually anxiety-provoking) thing to do. It takes curiosity, courage, and openness to lean into this work. I specialize in depression, anxieties, relational trauma, history of abuse, complex PTSD, and identity development. It is a privilege to walk with each of my clients through the pain they arrived with, and notice that we come out on the other side together, with new empowerment - I love my work.

I welcome families,
women
, children, and adolescents to my practice.
We each have a story to tell. Our stories shape our perceptions of the past and our feelings for the future. It is empowering when we can tell our stories. My approach is to recognize your strengths, honor your innate wisdom, and provide a place for you to tell your story in an atmosphere of warmth, understanding, and acceptance. Through this process you will find opportunities to gain insight and resolve difficulties, and may discover a renewed sense of purpose and meaning in your life. Therapy is a creative and collaborative process and one that I hope you will enjoy.

I love working with
women
to navigate their specific needs including pregnancy and postpartum concerns, motherhood, anxious thoughts, body image, strained/broken relationships, shame/guilt, perfectionistic tendencies, and overwhelm.
Do you have past hurts, trauma, and loss that has impacted your ability show up as the mom, partner, and individual you want to be? Your mind feels restless; you feel lost, distracted, and unsure how to do this? You aren’t quite sure the cause, but you know this depressed mood, anxiousness, or disconnection that you feel is not the way you want to continue living. Instead you long to find “balance”, connection, self-love/acceptance, and the ability to be you while being the best mom, partner, friend, boss, or coworker you can be. It is possible.

If you are not where you want to be, or who you want to be, there is a path towards a future. And looking for change is a great start! Depression, anxiety, obstructive/destructive habits; these can be telling you that it’s time to look at your life, understand what creates discomfort and what works, and find the momentum to take action. Your past may have shaped you but you can shape your future. If it’s time for change then come and talk. Life is full of transitions. In fact, all of life is a transition. And as a transgender
woman
I know about transitional challenges! When change comes along it can be very stressful.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
