Accepting new clients. In my practice I work with individuals,
couples
, families, and small groups. Most of the people I see are between 13 and 75 years old; overcoming trauma, self-doubt, depression, anxiety, or loss. Many feel "different", marginalized, alone, misunderstood, or not "mainstream" enough. Some look fine, but feel out of place. Some are deaf or children of deaf adults (CODA). Others are physically challenged, caretakers, straight, lesbian, gay, transgendered, or unsure. After 30 years, I still feel it is honored to be part of the growth and change people experience as skills develop and clients " Enjoy Life More".

Are you or a loved one struggling with difficult thoughts and emotions? Maybe life feels unmanageable at times? Perhaps you are going through a challenging chapter in life right now, or you have experienced trauma that is impacting your relationships or wellbeing? These things can be overwhelming, but you do not have to go through them alone. You matter your feelings matter, your voice matters, and your unique qualities and strengths matter. There is no one-size-fits-all, no single answer. My approach will be catered to you, your needs, and what feels safe for you. It takes courage to ask for help and I am glad you are here.

Today, some of the most common difficulties I treat are anxiety, family conflicts, addictions, life changes, divorce, co-dependency, eating disorders, feeling stuck, addictive and obsessive behaviors, lack of self-esteem, depression, complex trauma,
relationship
issues, including parenting and romantic partners and healing narcissistic relationships.
Accepting new clients. ‘How did I get here’. ‘How do I get out,’ are common thoughts we all have. We learn to survive and do the best in the worlds we have grown up in; and sometimes we find ourselves going round and round in a strange sort of ‘uncomfortable comfort’ or ‘functional dysfunction’ of our lives. I strive to see the world through your lens and understand your unique family, cultural, and identity experiences. In every individual exists a craving to embody a life unburdened by excessive guilt and shame, while having the freedom to enjoy a more meaningful and joyful human experience.

I work with individuals and
couples
, teens and adults in both short term solution-focused therapy and longer term psychodynamic therapy. I work with those who struggle with symptoms and dysfunctional relationships and with those who would like to more fully inhabit their own lives. As a licensed professional counselor I provide a safe container and the commitment to listen deeply, knowing that to be human is to struggle. Staying with the struggle, we experience the life that is here: its losses, its disappointments and its joys. It is from here that new vistas open up and movement that is authentic and purposeful becomes possible.

Whatever struggle may be presenting itself in your life, I believe you have the ability to make it through this challenge with increased insight, compassion and the tools to thrive. I believe treatment works best through a collaborative, supportive and non-judgmental approach where my role is to help guide and equip you with the necessary tools and coping skills. Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
