Life is unpredictable. Often events happen out of our control. We find ourselves reacting with emotions that are overwhelming and sometimes debilitating. I cannot change what has happened in your life or what losses you’ve had to go through. I can walk alongside of you, create a safe place for you to process events or relationships that are causing stress, and help define your goals and values to reach solutions. I know you are not alone, and I want you to know it also. I can help you find hope when hope may seem far out of reach.

My goal is to create a safe, collaborative environment for you, where you can talk freely and explore your thoughts, feelings, perceptions, conflicts and relationships. The more we understand together, the less likely you are to feel you are in the grip of distressing patterns and struggles that feel intractable. Your psychotherapy experience can be a source of strength, comfort, confidence and change. It can help you understand yourself better on both a conscious and unconscious level. It is very meaningful to me to have a part in your journey of personal growth and change.

I work with individuals experiencing frequent and persistent Anxiety. Feeling a certain level of discomfort over big stressors is totally normal, however, if that worry does not go away or progresses it may be time to reach out for help. Unmanaged stress and anxiety can lead to chronic mental, physical, and relational problems. Common mental health issues that lead people to work with me include anxiety and panic, addiction and substance abuse, depression, grief and loss, bipolar functioning, and relationship concerns.

My counseling philosophy involves allowing a client to be themselves and working to meet them "wherever they may be on their own self discovery journey". I have been in the counseling field for over 20 years and have tremendous experience working with several populations. I have learned that individuals have the innate capacity to grow and become their best selves, given an environment in which they can do so. Asking for help to do this can be very difficult. Regardless of the obstacles in your life, you have the capacity to move forward.

Taking Clients for a Waitlist Ony! Do you feel stuck, anxious and depressed and wonder what is wrong with you? Personal crisis, work burnout, the loss of a loved one, and stressful situations like those of 2020 make life even harder. Just deciding to change, talking yourself through it or “pulling yourself up by the boot straps” doesn't always work. Sometimes your pain is deep and rooted in the past. Maybe it’s not clear to you and held in your subconscious. That is often a normal outcome when we don’t get the support we need in our time of struggle. Hello, I'm a counselor intern and provide reduced fee counseling sessions. It can be challenging to start the counseling process, but so much good can come from sharing your experience and not holding it in. I try my best to provide a space that is nonjudgemental, where you can expect that I will listen, do my best to understand your perspective and work together to find solutions. Through this process, individuals are often able to understand themselves better and naturally begin to make changes in their life.

Not accepting clients. Populations I really enjoy working with are youth (ages 13+) and young adults. I feel this has definitely become my niche as this tends to be a transition period for youth with learning who they are as an individual, finding their voice, peer/school pressure, and social media. As well young adults (18-30) what I notice is this age group really struggles with boundary setting as they are transitioning from being under their parents to being an adult. I also enjoy helping them with identification of values and beliefs what are important to them, follow through and helping them learn to have healthy habits.

I work with adults to unravel the story of their life and make sense of the patterns and behaviors that keep them stuck in emotional pain and discomfort. I use a variety of modalities and experiential therapies, over one to four days, in intensive individual therapy. This model provides extended therapy to those looking for relief and resolution in a shorter amount of time and provides more comprehensive healing than tradition talk therapy.

I work with individuals and couples who might be struggling to reach resolution, accept themselves, or find internal peace of mind. I am partial to using a creative and experimental approach with clients. However, depending on their situation, I'm more than happy to make adjustments as needed. My services include counseling couples, finding one's authentic self, adjustment issues, and grief counseling.

What stands in the way of you feeling whole, supported, connected, and in charge of your life? Sometimes we see ourselves in outdated or inaccurate ways, feel stuck in habits and routines that are burdensome or unfulfilling, struggle in relationships, work too hard to keep pain at bay, suffer terrible losses, and find ordinary life challenges overwhelming and impossible. Whether your struggle involves past trauma, difficult relationships, challenging life transitions, or just navigating through a demanding and ever changing world, you deserve compassionate understanding, support, and relief.

To me, therapy is a collaborative process and I aim to meet my clients wherever they are on their journey to health. Whether a problem is long-standing and complex, or more recent and straightforward, I want to learn about how they view themselves, others, and the world. We can then identify what does or does not work in their lives and expand upon those areas to create desired change. I am able to assist with a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, and grief/loss, among others. I welcome all genders and enjoy working with ages 14 through seniors.

Could your trauma experiences be leaving you with feeling the pressure to be perfect all the time, making sure everyone around you is happy and "good", and you’re physically exhausted from it? Unhealed trauma can result in you second guessing yourself and your decisions, struggling to identify your emotions, finding it hard to rely on others, and feeling like you’re just not good enough. Does this resonate with you? I work with driven, people-pleasing women trauma survivors eager for lasting change who are struggling with the lingering effects of trauma, subsequent relationship anxiety, and painful overwhelm in their body.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Boise?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
