Welcome and hello! My name is Janelle. I'm a therapist, a mom, a partner, and just your average messy human. I love what I do and I love the people I get to spend time with each day. I believe that all who enter my office have their own wisdom and truth and I work to find that and teach you how to trust it. I use tools and resources to help you feel whole and congruent and to go forward with your own power. We'll laugh, we'll cry, we'll heal. It'll sometimes be uncomfortable. My approach to therapy is, first and foremost, about the relationship between the therapist and client. Acceptance, compassion, and respect are the building blocks of a therapeutic relationship. I believe in developing a trusting, accepting, and empathetic relationship, focusing on the strengths of the client. My master's education was completed at the University of Denver where I gained unparralleled clinical skills that help me provide the best care to meet client needs. My passion for people, paticularly women, who have experienced trauma grew as I worked at internships helping victims of sexual trauma and their families.

Sexual, physical, and emotional abuse in childhood can greatly limit the degree to which one can function fully and find fulfilling relationships. I have an endless amount of compassion for the pain that life can bring and a tremendous amount of respect for the courage that it takes to look honestly at ourselves.

I work with clients of all ages and specialize in working with individuals who have been diagnosed with a life threatening or terminal disease, their families, and caregivers. In addition, I work with infertile couples and those pursuing fertility treatment and/or adoption, as well as women who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, or post abortion grief. Grief and loss are experienced at many stages of life and are often at the root of the issues presented in counseling, such as anxiety and/or depression. I also specialize in grief/loss counseling and work with a myriad of other symptoms as well.

I believe all individuals have the ability to change and to heal. In my practice, I strive to create a safe, caring, non-judgmental environment where a strong therapeutic relationship can flourish. Through the therapeutic relationship, clients learn to access their inner resources to make long-term, meaningful changes in their lives. My style is direct, down to Earth and intuitive. I prefer to use humor and common sense over clinical jargon and stuffiness. I am in the performing arts and my counseling sessions are held in my studio with all my music equipment and my dog. Most of my clients are dealing with issues related to adjustments, life transitions, relationships, self esteem, grief, and anxiety. I work with individuals/couples/families, adults and children. I am 100% freelance so I don't accommodate no-shows or frequent rescheduling. I do not accept insurance but I offer a sliding fee scale.

Kara is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. She graduated from Boise State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Health Promotions and went on to receive a Master's Degree in Clinical Counseling with an emphasis in EMDR Therapy and Play Therapy.

Update 10/24/23: I currently have openings for new clients. Your partner complains that you are too disorganized and scattered. In fact, they complain they have to be your private secretary. It’s impossible to find anything. You missed another dentist appointment and now they won’t even let you make another. Your boss yelled at you for being late again. Or if you are a student, you forgot to turn in the homework assignment. Nobody seems to have much sympathy and now people seem annoyed at you. You don't know how much longer you can keep your life moving forward and negative thoughts toward yourself keep growing.

My experience as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), includes working in a hospital behavioral health unit and counseling clinics. I have been in private practice now for 5 years. My focus is in helping individuals manage stress, anxiety and depression, along with working through trauma with client-centered talk therapy, EMDR and MBSR.
