Accepting new Clients! - As an IFS trained therapist, I believe we have no bad parts. This means our anger, forgetfulness, substance use, isolation, anxiety, and depression are all important parts of our internal system which have developed for a reason. You may have experienced this when you felt torn between two strong feelings – like the need to lay down and shut the world out while also feeling compelled to be productive. Our work together will provide an understanding of these internal parts to learn what they may be needing to enhance your life in the present and heal your inner child.

A child’s behavior can leave parents feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, and struggling to find connection. I work with children and families to help decode what behaviors are telling us. I believe that children (and adults) communicate through behavior. Providing parents and children with the tools to read the behaviors and understand the underlying meaning of them is when healing, growth, and change begin to happen.

Sometimes there is a time when it feels like the right time to start something new. Sometimes the "right time" never comes, and you decide to start anyway.
We each author our own story, the story of our lives, within the context of our communities, culture, and relationships. The story we create shapes who we are, how we see the world and ourselves, and the future. As a professional counselor, Sarah believes therapy holds the hope that change is possible, the past does not determine the future, and tomorrow can be different than today.
So let's start from the beginning,
or start from today,
either way,
let us start where we are.

I am accepting new clients!
I consider myself to be an existential therapist and believe that through suffering sometimes we find purpose and meaning in life. None of us are above suffering. Everyone will experience trauma or loss at some point in life and deserve a safe place to work through those experiences. I know what it is to suffer and have personal and professional experience with trauma, domestic violence, and substance use issues. I believe the therapeutic relationship is the most important component of effective therapy and place value on providing a non-judgmental, peaceful, safe space to heal.

Life can be tough, especially when we carry childhood trauma or face difficult transitions. Therapy offers a valuable chance to heal from these experiences and gain insights. It provides a space to explore what's happening within ourselves and with those around us. Embracing growth and change is a natural part of the journey toward feeling better, developing personal resources, and improving our connections with ourselves and others. I deeply value hearing and understanding people's stories. Each day is an invitation to persevere, and I am truly grateful for the moments of healing and growth that I witness.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
