I have experience working with those experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD , autism, behavioral disorders, trauma, developmental disabilities, and other life stressors.
I have a great passion for working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families. I use a strengths-based approach to therapy, and often use models that include cognitive-behavioral and family-centered elements, as well as the ACT theory. Because people and situations are all unique, I also believe in the importance of collaborating with individuals and families to find a therapeutic approach that best fits with specific needs.

**NO OPENINGS AT THIS TIME** I enjoy helping clients create rich and meaningful lives. I specialize in individual therapy with adults and adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, eating disorders, adjustments to life stressors, and more. I also love working with artists and creative people. I primarily use the Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) Model with clients, an evidence-based model that stems out of cognitive behavioral therapy, and the idea that our thoughts, emotions and behaviors are closely connected. Clients learn many skills related to mindfulness, radical acceptance, and self-compassion.

I believe that we all do our best - every day - as life brings frustration, stress, and even suffering. We work so hard to get rid of our pain, yet many of our "feel better" strategies have hidden expiration dates. Inevitably distress returns, or worsens. And- as an ACT therapist (and practitioner) - I believe that your ideal life is possible. We just have to (compassionately) give up the notion that we must wait until we're free from pain to begin living that big, full life. We have to kindly show ourselves that our dreams are possible- starting right now.

ADHD Therapists
Some children and adults with ADHD find it difficult to concentrate on tasks at school or work and may daydream frequently. Children with ADHD may become disruptive, defiant, or have trouble getting along with parents, peers, or teachers. Children who struggle with hyperactivity and impulsivity, in particular, often have behavioral challenges that can be difficult for adults to manage. Adults, on the other hand, may be more likely to report feeling restless or fidgety; if they struggle with impulsivity, they may make rash decisions that adversely affect their life. For both children and adults, executive functioning (planning, emotional regulation, and decision-making) is often affected as well. Many children and adults display either hyperactive or inattentive symptoms of ADHD, but it’s also possible for both sets of symptoms to exist together, in what is typically called combined type ADHD.

If you're looking for an Iowa City ADHD therapist, these professionals provide ADHD therapy and counseling in Iowa City.
