If you feel ready and are looking for someone to provide nonjudgmental acceptance and support along the way, I invite you to reach out for a free consultation.
Like many of us, most of my clients are seeking greater meaning in their lives, improved connection and satisfaction in relationships, and relief from the torment of loneliness, worry, rumination, and shame. My practice is based on values that emphasize acceptance /non-judgment, compassion, and authenticity. Starting therapy doesn't need to have a rigid plan or agenda. Simply being curious or wanting to feel better is a great place to start. We all need a space where we don't feel judged and are free to explore who we are, what we want, and who we want to become.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT ) is based on mindful living.
Our minds are really good at shuttling between past and future, driven by our fears and desires, memories and imagination. This disconnection with our present reality has become even more severe with the advent of smartphones, the high levels of stress in our modern day lives, and endemic psychological trauma in our communities.

Through mindfulness, acceptance , and non-judgmental guidance I can assist you in navigating the pain of change and growth to set you on your path of living your life more freely.
We think the new car will make us happy. The job, the first date, the wedding, the kid, the dog (OK, let's be honest, dogs make everyone happy). But we often find, much to our dismay, that the search for happiness or the next life milestone often leaves us feeling unfulfilled. Both therapy and change are not easy or without pain.

I am trained in CBT, TF-CBT, EMDR, ACT , and DBT.
We all experience bumps and bruises throughout our lives. When those bumps and bruises become too much to handle it can be very difficult to reach out for comfort and help, not knowing where to turn. It can make you feel defeated, helpless, and isolated. You don't deserve to walk through life just surviving day-to-day. I believe in meeting my clients where they are at in life, wherever that may be, and helping them to learn how heal and grow so they no longer are just surviving, but able to fully live their lives. I work from an open-minded, non-judgmental framework and believe in a true therapeutic partnership with my clients.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

Is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy evidence-based?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is one of many approaches within the field of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is an evidence-based treatment framework that has been shown to be effective in treating many mental health conditions including depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and OCD.

What is the difference between Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

Despite being part of the CBT family of therapies, ACT differs from other approaches within this field in several important ways: First, it emphasizes acceptance over change; second, it focuses on present moment experiences rather than past experiences or future events; third it focuses on what clients can do rather than what they cannot do; and fourth it emphasizes values rather than symptoms as targets for change.

What credentials will a certified Acceptance and Commitment therapist have?

A certified Acceptance and Commitment therapist in Des Moines will have completed specialized training in this approach at a university accredited by The Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT).

How long does ACT typically take?

ACT is a relatively short-term therapy that focuses on helping you accept the things you can't change and commit to the things you can. It typically takes about eight weeks of weekly sessions with a therapist to complete the entire process. You may need to see your therapist weekly or biweekly, depending on the circumstances surrounding your situation.
