I work primarily with children and teens; I use both play therapy and talk therapy techniques with clients as appropriate as we work together in therapy. I have a passion for experiential therapy. I believe the most important element of therapy is the therapist's unconditional positive regard for the client. A client's capacity for growth increases according to how much they believe others believe in them. As a therapist, I am sometimes the first person a child/
teen
will trust besides their parent(s) who says, "You are good. You are capable of growth and change. I believe in you."

I am clinically trained to help individuals and families experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, impulsivity, conflicts and grief. I believe that everyone's capable of experiencing an emotionally healthy and fulfilling life regardless of their unique circumstance. With therapy to find insight into past pain and trauma, wounds old and new can be healed, and tools can be discovered to deal with present and future challenges. My clients are ready to be the agents of change in their lives through their personal growth instead of waiting for the world around them to change. I believe that through therapy with me, individuals have the innate wisdom and courage that can be discovered to find their best paths forward with compassion for self and others.

Being stuck in an emotional tornado with no end is devastating. The past year+ has been full of hurt, fear, loss, and the unexpected... to say the least. You end up feeling lost, unsure of yourself, your relationships, your job, your whole world. You end up feeling alone, feeling a hole in your body that can't or is refusing to be filled, feeling like shit at the end of most days. Sometimes you see a glimmer of hope... yet you doubt it's real.

Everyone experiences life differently. There is no one size fits all. This is why I value a collaborative approach when working with you, as you are the expert of your life. My goal as your therapist is to help you feel heard, understood, and to develop your treatment approach based upon your unique desires and needs. While utilizing a non-judgemental, flexible approach, it is my duty to help you uncover your hopes and to create the future you wish to see. Navigating change can be both challenging and scary. Currently have openings both in-person and via telehealth! We all have a story and some chapters tend to be more difficult to remember and understand than others. I assist others in processing through, coping with, and resolving the pain of those chapters in their lives that may impact their everyday life functioning in their current state. Landing onto this page is your first step in a very brave, yet potentially scary journey in healing. My approach is practical and often direct, however driven with compassion and non-judgement. I often tailor my sessions with a bit of humor if appropriate. :)

*Accepting new clients* It can be hard to make it these days! With responsibilities continuing to pile up, work, kids, now a pandemic to worry about, it's understandable to feel overwhelmed. Reaching out for help can make a big difference in how you manage these and other life stresses though. Whether you need help working issues out with a partner, stresses with kids, stepkids, or grandkids, or just need someone to talk to about what's happening in your story, I'd be honored to hear it.

I believe in the power of transformational relationships. I believe everyone deserves to be heard, believed, and valued. I believe that we owe one another empathy and care. I adventure through this world, knowing we are all doing our best. Sometimes, we all need a little extra help to get where we want to be, and I’m honored to be a part of the journeys of others. My goal is to always lead with a listening ear and without judgment. I’m a collaborator in the process and meet others where they are. I strive to make my office a space where everyone feels safe and comfortable enough to share who they are and where they want to be.

Therapy can be overwhelming and it is important to me to create a place where you can feel safe to be vulnerable. I provide a calm and laid-back environment to offer an inviting atmosphere for you to discuss your feelings, thoughts, and experiences. This is especially important to me because I know that growth happens outside of our comfort zone. We aren’t always aware of what we can achieve, and I enjoy assisting others in opening their eyes to their full potential. I have a strong belief that being willing to explore the challenging pieces of ourselves will allow us to grow.

I hope to provide a different view of the things your looking to process/explore in order to help you move forward in life successfully.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
