Sometimes putting yourself first is one of the most challenging things to do, asking for help taking care of your mental health feels overwhelming these days. Add in daily stressors of managing schoolwork, job stress, family drama, peer conflict and just struggling to function normally can be too much for children and adults. As adults we may worry about how we look and seem to others, or have some other underlying issue we aren't comfortable sharing with others or may struggle to build deeper meaningful relationships to build our support network. Counseling can offer an outlet to process your concerns outside of that network.

The human experience is messy and unpredictable. It takes courage to ask for help, and I am here to meet you where you are. Unfortunately, counseling is not one-size-fits-all, but together we can craft an experience that matches your needs. I offer a warm, safe environment that allows self-exploration of thoughts and experiences without the fear of judgment or shame. I enjoy using humor and creativity in my practice and often challenge my clients to reach their full potential. My goal is not only finding the safe, confidential space within therapy but also the ability for each individual to walk away with a greater sense of connection and understanding of themselves. With this increased acceptance of self you are able to focus on your present and future goals, relationships with others and manage emotions in a healthier manner. This road can be difficult at times, but taking the first step with starting therapy can help you achieve what you envision for your life.

Life can feel overwhelming at times and it can also hold meaning. Although both can be true, making sense of it all while maintaining a secure connection with others is not an easy balance. Genuine and authentic relationships offer the unconditional support that is essential in building the foundation we need to explore who we are, what we value, and how it all impacts the lives of the ones we love.

ADHD Therapists
Some children and adults with ADHD find it difficult to concentrate on tasks at school or work and may daydream frequently. Children with ADHD may become disruptive, defiant, or have trouble getting along with parents, peers, or teachers. Children who struggle with hyperactivity and impulsivity, in particular, often have behavioral challenges that can be difficult for adults to manage. Adults, on the other hand, may be more likely to report feeling restless or fidgety; if they struggle with impulsivity, they may make rash decisions that adversely affect their life. For both children and adults, executive functioning (planning, emotional regulation, and decision-making) is often affected as well. Many children and adults display either hyperactive or inattentive symptoms of ADHD, but it’s also possible for both sets of symptoms to exist together, in what is typically called combined type ADHD.

If you're looking for a Cedar Rapids ADHD therapist, these professionals provide ADHD therapy and counseling in Cedar Rapids.
