I have worked in the counseling field for over 20 years, primarily in a University setting, until the past several years when I began working in private practice. I enjoy working with clients who believe in their potential to change and have the motivation to make those changes. I have experience working with a variety of issues. Clients I most often work with struggle with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship/marital problems, abuse, trauma, OCD, grief and loss. I listen, without judgment, and provide objective feedback while also being compassionate. I provide a safe space to learn, change and grow.

Now accepting new clients! When we face challenges in life, we go to what has worked in the past. We distract ourselves, distance ourselves, or self-medicate with food, relationships, substances and more. At some point, these methods do more harm than good. Let's work together to identify the ways you cope and find better options. I will create a comfortable and safe environment free from judgment that encourages self-discovery. I have experience helping people with trauma, relationships, self-esteem, body image, substance use, anxiety, depression, OCD, binge eating disorder, suicidal thoughts and more.

I focus on empowering clients to gain overall well-being by providing a non-judgmental atmosphere. A cornerstone of my work is to become an ally for clients to assist them in achieving their goals and recognizing their strengths. I strive to empower individuals and help others achieve their goals through insight and developing personal strengths. I believe developing healthy relationships, finding life balance, and restoring an individual's inner world is vital in establishing one's overall well-being. Everyone goes through challenges and hardships in life. I respect how difficult it is to ask for help and receive support during these times. Building a therapeutic rapport, creating a safe place in the counseling process, and respecting every individual's life journey is important to me.

Openings for individual adult clients. Often what brings people to therapy can be summed up by the word “stuck”. You might be stuck in a rut; under a cloud of sadness or depression; caught in the spin cycle of anxiety; trying to process relationship issues or a big decision; or wanting to move past trauma or grief & loss. Maybe someone or something in your life has given you a soft or firm nudge in the direction of therapy. We’ll work through whatever you bring to therapy in a way that prepares you to meet any difficulties along the road while you reach your goals.

We all need help at some point in our lives. Feeling stuck is disorienting and sometimes it takes someone outside of your circumstances to help. Taking the step to reach out and ask for help is courageous, but can be nerve-racking too. Many people simply need a safe place to crash land and unpack some of life's hardships whether it's relationships, parenting, grief, stress or anything else that has you stuck.

Whether it's depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship struggles, or tackling a new chapter of life, I love working with clients who are ready to understand themselves better, and looking for support in their growth. I believe every person has their own unique set of patterns for tackling life and emotions, and problems often arise when these patterns are no longer serving us well. It can be difficult and frustrating to seek a better life if we do not first understand what has brought us to our current struggle or what still stands in our way. I'm here to be a listener, companion, and problem-solver while you're on that journey.

I believe that everyone deserves a place to feel safe and heal and I pride myself in providing a warm and welcoming space to do just that. The experiences that we face daily shape our decisions as well as what we have been through. Not only do I understand both sides of the mental health chair, I believe that it can lead to learning from each other. I am focused on the betterment of my clients in any way possible. I use humor often and find it a useful tool in healing and processing life.

Self Esteem Therapists
When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.
What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.
What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.
How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
