I employ a whole person, humanistic, psychodynamic and collaborative approach where I incorporate strength-based strategies, cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness and an extensive background in learning differences and executive function to encourage and amplify your strengths and resilience in order to emerge from distress.
Do you outwardly appear to hold it all together? Yet on the inside, are there numerous life circumstances that challenge your ability to cope, manage everyday stressors, and feel in control? As a school counselor and learning specialist with 27 years experience working with adolescents and young adults, I bring a unique perspective of empathy, compassion, optimism, and humor to my counseling practice. I hold a safe space in which adolescents and young adults can address and navigate stress, anxiety, attentional and executive function challenges, social, familial and societal expectations and the myriad transitions life presents us.

I am genuinely passionate about helping young women navigate early adulthood with all its challenges and complexities. Coping with anxiety, low self-esteem, and depression can often impact the pursuit of what you truly want in life—both individually and in relationships—bringing waves of despair and moments of discouragement that often feel overwhelming. These fears can be all too real and can leave you feeling lost and alone. I am dedicated to walking alongside you as you explore your emotions and feelings, discover your inner resilience, and take steps toward self-compassion and a greater sense of trust in who you are.

I work with teens, adults, and families. I believe that counseling is, first and foremost, a relationship; positive change can only take place when the relationship is based upon honest and open communication, collaboration, and trust. With individuals, my goal is to help you build upon your existing coping skills, deepen your insight, and work with you to develop healthier approaches that will improve your ability to handle future stressors, challenges, and losses. With families, my goal is to help identify challenges and collaborate on an action plan for family success.

I would love to help you create more flexibility and creativity in your relationships to self and others. We'll do this through mindfulness, somatic attention, and moment-to-moment curiosity. I listen to the stories you tell and how you tell them. Attention to posture and sensation helps us see body narratives, and observation of speech patterns and words provides clues about mental and emotional themes. Eventually new stories and possibilities appear as we interrupt worn out messages and invite new meanings. You will learn emotion regulation, self-advocacy, boundary-setting, and increased creative resilience.

You're probably feeling stuck. You might be feeling unhappy, depressed, anxious, disconnected, and self-critical. You may have been through a trauma, recently or years ago. You are ready to make a change - any change - but you aren’t sure where to start or how. At this point, you might even be lost trying to find a therapist. You have probably looked at what feels like a million profiles and websites, and everyone is starting to sound the same. Take a deep breath. You WILL find what you need.

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, with a combined 20 years of advocacy and clinical experience, I continually marvel at how profoundly strong, resilient, and adaptive humans are and the many ways, usually unconsciously, that we develop to navigate and cope within our uniquely formative personal, familial, and cultural contexts. Often these coping skills that served us so well in childhood, as we dealt with difficult experiences and/or trauma, do not work as well once we become adults and move into new contexts. It can be scary when coping strategies, that used to help, no longer provide the solace and comfort they once did.

We reach out for help when something in our life gets our attention. It could be distressing feelings and thoughts, paralyzing indecision, stress, relationship challenges, trauma, illness, just to name a few. We can feel vulnerable, lost, alone. Oftentimes, the original issue which first got our attention takes us on an unexpected journey. We are given the opportunity to deepen into our relationship with ourselves and the divine in ways that heal and change us beyond anything we imagined. This reverberates into every aspect of our life bringing happiness, renewed vitality, a sense of belonging and feeling engaged in life, contentment and peace.

Humanistic Therapists

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualization and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
