My potential clients may be veterans looking for a safe space to navigate challenges related to serving, adolescents coping with difficult relational issues, or the person that is dreaming big but needs some support and motivation to get where they are trying to go. Some experiences may include anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue, lack of motivation, boundary issues, issues surrounding identity, unhealthy relationships with food, low resilience, and relational issues.

I employ an eclectic mix of modalities including psychodynamic therapy, humanistic therapy, and behavioral therapies.
As a therapist, I believe our past experiences inform our present: they shape who we are, how we act, what we value, and how we relate to others. However, I also believe they do not determine our future. This idea serves as the foundation of our work together. My approach involves helping you identify your values, utilize the strengths you already possess, and develop your vision for a life worth living. I assist in examining how our interpersonal relationships can establish and reinforce maladaptive coping, and work with you to replace what no longer serves you with a fresh perspective and new skills.

Though I draw from humanistic, psychodynamic and DBT modalities, in essence my approach is integrative, person-centered, and strength-based.
I see therapy as a place to practice courage and honesty, with the goal of creating more joy, humor, flexibility, and play in one's life, relationships, and work. I often see individuals dealing with complex issues such as depression, grief/loss, anxiety, recovery from trauma/abuse or neglect, postpartum or parenting issues, child emotional or behavioral concerns, relationship conflicts, or identity/life transitions. My approach is collaborative, empathic, and interactive, creating an environment in which to help you better understand, relate to, and address the challenges you are experiencing.

I believe we are all capable of improving our lives. Many of us become stuck or overwhelmed in the process due to self doubt, insecurity, lack of self esteem, past or present trauma and losses, to name a few. Seeking therapy doesn’t mean that there is something wrong with you. Life is challenging. Sometimes we need a little help in identifying and overcoming the barriers that hold us back. Therapy can be a powerful tool in helping you gain insight and strengthen your skills and confidence in developing new patterns and behaviors that help enhance the quality of your life.

As a licensed psychotherapist, I believe therapy needs to be as unique as the individual and originate from a place of compassionate and collaborative curiosity. I take an eclectic approach that draws from somatic, dynamic, and relational schools of thought, with the underlying belief that all individuals already possess the ingredients needed to heal. My background predominantly involves working with teens, young and emerging adults, and athletes.

My belief is that all phases of life come with unique obstacles and opportunities for the development of deeper insight into what makes life meaningful to us. I find what often interferes with that meaning making process are deeply ingrained patterns of behavior, ways of connecting, and beliefs about who we are meant to be. These patterns in turn create seemingly unresolvable tensions in how we relate to others, the world, and our self. My hope is that in the work I do with my clients, we can create a safe, supportive, and challenging environment to explore where these patterns come from and how they continue to show up.

Humanistic Therapists

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualization and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
