My approach to treatment is influenced by humanistic, cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic theories.
Currently in private practice in both Louisiana and Rhode Island, I offer individual therapy and psychological assessment to adults. Whether you have a problem to solve, goals to achieve or need emotional support, therapy can offer a safe space for an individual to disclose information and receive supportive, non-judgmental feedback, while learning skills to improve yourself. I am best suited to help you with mood difficulties, such as depression; self-esteem and identity problems; stress and anxiety; substance abuse problems; employment struggles; and relationship problems.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, and I provide individual holistic psychotherapy and mind-body skills training (guided imagery, meditation, relaxation, mindfulness, etc). In addition to providing counseling using a wellness approach (rather than the medical model), I also use mind-body skills training to help clients move towards personal growth and stress reduction and to better cope with transition and developmental processes. My theoretical approach to counseling is somewhat eclectic, but largely humanistic, existential, and integrative. I work with clients on examining and building upon the whole person holistically.

Currently I am still exclusively practicing virtually. I work with my clients from a humanistic perspective and enjoy getting to know each client over time. The therapeutic relationship is sacred and I am honored to have so many long-term clients who utilize therapy sessions not only for deeper issues and stresses, but also for continual support. My clients appreciate my dedication to their overall mental and emotional health.

My approach to counseling is holistic and based on the client's needs. I use methodology from humanistic psychology, person-centered therapy, psychodynamic theory and cognitive behavioral therapy. I help clients identify hidden strengths and discover obstacles to a more meaningful life. I work with the client on building an authentic therapeutic relationship where the client is seen as the expert in her/his own life. I do this in a compassionate, safe, and nonjudgmental process. I am effective in working with people who seek short-term, solution-focused therapy as well as longer-term therapeutic goals.

My theoretical approach to counseling is somewhat eclectic, but largely humanistic, existential, and integrative.
Often we seek therapy when our natural tools alone can't support us anymore. Maybe life has thrown something too big at us, or we have suffered silently for too long. I work collaboratively with clients to move towards personal growth, stress reduction and improved coping techniques. Through compassion and clinical tools I partner with clients to manage life transitions and navigate developmental processes. I work to create a safe, empowering space for my clients. It's an environment where I believe we are best positioned to access insight, strengthen our resilience, and build readiness for change.

We all have problems, habits and "quirks" of personality and wonder sometimes when life gets rough, whether we need therapy or if it would be a good option. When life is getting on top of you, when you begin to feel strong emotions that you didn't know that you had, when you feel lost or hopeless or just want to reach your full potential, then give yourself a chance to seek a new solution. I can help. I believe that each individual is creative and unique and that there is no "one" way to be happy or live life. For New Orleans I offer virtual, telehealth appointments & EMDR and Gottman Relationship Counseling.

Dr. Klenck holds specialized training in evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, exposure therapy, and mindfulness-based practices for the treatment of anxiety, depression, bipolar and related disorders and a wide range of other difficulties. Dr. Klenck focuses on evidence-based treatment and evidence-based assessment practices, but finds the most important factor in therapy is the therapeutic relationship. Without a strong alliance with the client, she finds a therapist is limited in their ability to help the individual effect change.

There are many reasons or motivations people may have for seeing a therapist, and they are all valid: You might feel stuck, out of balance, disconnected. Maybe you and/or a loved one are experiencing some form of loss or distress, are seeking change or healing. You may want to foster growth, self-exploration, nourishment, or acceptance in your life. Perhaps you just need a space where you can be validated and supported, without judgement. My approach to therapy is eclectic and collaborative: working with you to tailor and adjust my methods to your strengths, preferences, and needs. In therapy, one size does NOT fit all.

Hello and congratulations on having the self care and courage to consider counseling. I use a holistic approach, believing that wellness of the mind, body, and spirit are equally important. Using this approach, I work with clients with a variety of goals and needs. I can help you address relationship issues, family of origin issues, trauma, grief, and personal growth, while incorporating the use of mind body skills (such as breathing, meditation, guided imagery, etc.) when appropriate. My practice includes work with individuals, couples, and groups.

What would your life look like if you could snap your fingers and everything could change? What if your relationships with loved ones had less conflict? What if your stress levels were more manageable? Whether this is your first time in counseling or you’re searching for a new therapist that’s a “good fit,” I can help in tackling those questions. Here’s a quick snapshot of what our experience will look like together: I use an existential lens in therapy, which means that I enjoy teaming up with a client to explore the patterns of their life. Your life patterns are unique, and your counseling experience should reflect that.

Humanistic Therapists

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualization and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
