My ideal clients are not perfect. My ideal clients are humans with challenges and strengths of all kinds. My ideal clients are those in need of softness and compassion as well as tough love and confrontation. I can best support adolescent and adult clients that live with depression, anxiety, PTSD, postpartum issues, identity/purpose challenges, and grief. My clients want to feel freedom from suffering. My clients want to learn how to navigate communication and relationships. My clients want to feel joy, to have hope, and to appreciate and love themselves.

As a humanistic clinician, I value each and every connection I make with individuals along this journey.
I truly believe that all humans have the capacity to heal, adapt and transform our lives. When given the right tools and support, we become empowered for change. The primary focus of my practice is support individuals as they work to cope and heal from complex trauma, addictive behaviors, and codependency. I strive to nurture and empower my clients without enabling. I am neurodivergent-affirming and support my clients in developing feeling understandings of themselves. I hold a warm, down to earth, and non-judgmental therapeutic space where all can feel secure.

I believe in a humanistic and relational approach to mental health.
I am AuDHD and a Queer and ND affirming therapist. I work with neurodivergent adults from a strength’s perspective, focusing on individual goals and improving quality of life as defined by my clients. I work on unmasking, neurodivergent burnout, interoception, emotional regulation, self-advocacy, executive functioning, and navigating living in a neurotypical society. I work with parents to address the transition to parenthood, postpartum disorders, low demand/gentle parenting, managing the mental load, and breaking generational cycles. When working with helping professionals, I focus on addressing compassion fatigue and burnout.

Do you feel like your emotions are getting the best of you? Do you feel like you could be a better parent or partner? Do you feel like you are drowning with no hope in sight? My purpose in working with you is to help you deal with your emotions more effectively so that you can improve your life. Too often people have all the ability and just don't know what step to take next. My purpose is to help you make those decisions. We also added a new therapist to handle the increased demand of kids (12-18). Together we both have over 30 years of experience working within schools. Erin Miller - profile also on Psychology Today

Life isn't always in our control (and no, I'm not a fan of that either). In therapy, we can learn to manage the things within our control - so that we are better equipped to contend with life’s inevitable ups and downs. Whether you're experiencing a big transition, stress from everyday life, a personal loss, or chronic issues - we can work together to make things easier. I have experience working with individuals with a variety of concerns & mental/physical health issues. I strive to make everyone - of any body shape/size, sexuality, gender, race, religion, or disability - comfortable in the therapy room (and in their own skins).

Our life's work is helping clients achieve a better sense of self and happiness...more recently we've recognized that without good mental health providers, finding this balance in life can be more difficult and stressful. As a result, we tend toward an Integrative approach and help our clients transform into the people they want to be. We see each client as an individual with many parts to their identity. Utilizing a holistic and systemic approach we help clients reintegrate the parts of themselves to function better as individuals and within their systems. Our focus tends toward a systems based approach using behavior methods.

If I asked you to list 5-10 ways to decrease anxiety, improve your relationships, or reach your goals, I bet you could think of at least a few examples fairly quickly. Maybe, you've already tried those strategies yourself. Thankfully, Mental Health strategies and theories are not in short supply. However, just because you might know what you're "supposed to do" to feel better, change your thought patterns, or improve your family dynamics doesn't mean it's easy to actually do it. Humans are endlessly adaptive, yet persistently stubborn. We just need to figure out what works for you.

We all need help dealing with life sometimes, and over the past few years our ability to cope with life stressors has become more important than ever as we navigate life during the pandemic. Maybe you find yourself just going through the motions and not living the way that you'd like. Maybe you've looked around and realized that you're struggling to maintain healthy boundaries with others. Or, maybe you just want to figure out where you fit in the world. Whatever you're struggling with, we can collaborate and figure out the best way to get you to where you'd like to be.

My current philosophy is that if PTSD is defined as past trauma experienced in the present via different symptoms, then every clinical presentation is one of trauma. Trauma focused therapists, such as myself, look at every client as unique and that they do not (and never have) fit into the boxes that other therapists have wanted them to fit into. Trauma therapists look at your past to better understand where your symptoms come from and how to resolve them. You will learn what you avoid and how you avoid it. Our hope is that you will work with us so that you can develop a more courageous attitude and face your unfinished business.

Hi, I'm Julianna, and I work with both teens and adults! I believe that everyone has a unique story and I acknowledge that beginning therapy can feel intimidating and even scary. I approach therapy with a collaborative mindset, free of judgement, and built on mutual respect and trust. I value a therapeutic environment where one is free to be their authentic self. I value a focus on solutions, offering guidance and unconditional support, while simultaneously acknowledging that you are the expert of your own life.

As an intern, I am learning who my ideal client might be, so I am open to meeting people across the board. Some of my particular areas of expertise and interest are with teenagers (especially those in the LGBTQ+ community) and those whose jobs in public service might make work/life balance difficult (such as educators or librarians). I'm interested in working on issues of anxiety, grief, life/career transitions, new parenthood, body acceptance, and more. I see my work as helping you become the best you can while understanding and navigating what might be keeping you challenged through a feminist, socially just, and systemic lens.

Humanistic Therapists

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualization and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
