I have extensive training in humanistic/existential modalities.
Welcome. Are you ready for the work necessary to make real, enduring change? Do you have a troubling personal issue or suffer from general dissatisfaction? My orientation is to focus on the unconscious, the elusive essence of the problem. A powerful process unfolds when change occurs at this level of the mind. This opens the space for authentic personal transformation.

My focus is to develop a relationship with the client. This is called the two person model which is different than the old fashion practice where the doctor is one up and the client is one down. Rather, the two person model attempts to understand the client through questions and mutual discussion. I am not a silent therapist. I give feedback and remain fully engaged with the patient. Together we build a rapport. I adhere to a humanistic approach.

Using a non judgmental humanistic theory approach, we can work to reduce anxiety, anger, grief, and stress, and uncover a more fulfilling and rewarding path forward.
As a skilled psychotherapist, I understand the challenges and concerns that can arise when seeking therapy. That's why I accept insurance to make the process more accessible and affordable for those in need. Whether you're new to therapy or have sought help in the past, my goal is to empower you with the tools and insights necessary to manage life's difficulties and achieve healthy, meaningful relationships. With over 26 years of experience, I have worked extensively with clients facing chronic and terminal illnesses, as well as their support systems, helping to alleviate stress and promote positive coping strategies.

I have a humanistic, often brief approach- with some humor! I meet you where you are and focus on collaboration to set goals.
Many of my clients want to feel better- to change their situation- with the support of someone who understands what it is like to feel lost or invisible. Many have hard jobs, work remotely, are either separated from family and friends or feeling alienated. My clients feel angry, isolated, lonely, anxious, depressed- and stuck. The couples I see are working through life's challenges and want a couple's counselor who gets them, who instead of pointing blame- finds solutions. Clients range from Hollywood to military, and teenagers to construction workers. Whatever your challenges, I will meet you there and help you navigate through.

My desire is to reflect and foster a place for my clients to explore the challenges, sorrows, joys and hidden desires, and exciting lessons life has to offer. Bearing witness to another person's process is an honor.

My approach to therapy includes a mix of humanistic and cognitive-behavioral approaches.
Many individuals do not come to therapy because they think it will make them look “crazy” or like they have “issues”. I want to work with you to change that mindset! Truth is, we have all gone through something, but it’s much more comforting when we do not have to go through it alone. Whether it’s anxiety, stress, depression, grief, or relationship issues, there is always a way for us to overcome. Together, we can work on leading you to the path of healing, growth, and resiliency. Utilizing a mix of humanistic and cognitive-behavioral approaches, we will work together as you walk through your journey.

I engage with each person as an individual that requires a unique set of skills specifically altered to address your personal sources of distress. I offer a safe, non-judgmental, compassionate and supportive environment so that you can create the change you are seeking. There are times in our lives when we struggle with the most valuable relationships in our lives. It helps to be able to reflect together, problem-solve toward solutions and ways of coping with someone who can remain objective and supportive. I believe a strong therapeutic relationship is important in order to grow in therapy.

It's never too late to understand yourself. If you can synchronize your heart and mind, you can harmonize your life. The therapeutic space I create is to help you learn about who you are as an individual and see your blind spots. Regardless if you're coming on your own or as a couple, the therapeutic work that we will be done is not just about solving problems. It’s primarily to help you figure out what's behind these issues and increase your self-worth along the way. Therapy is challenging, but can be fulfilling. The goal is to facilitate you in witnessing your life in the healthiest of ways as you become closer to your true self.

I work with individuals and couples struggling with unhealthy recurrent patterns within themselves and in relationships. I believe therapy can be a powerful opportunity for people to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and make meaning of their past experiences. Being stuck with deep seated patterns often continue to cause us pain and suffering and my hope is to be able to create a safe warm environment for people to explore what aspects of their past may be getting in the way of their present and future. I work in a collaborative fashion, hoping to help people find their truth.

Humanistic Therapists

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualization and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
