I arrive at the intersection of compassion & collaboration as I respectfully guide my clients to explore new levels of awareness, self-empowerment, flow, & understanding. Working towards cognitive flexibility, wholeness, and healing. Using empathy & unconditional positive regard as a foundation, I may occasionally challenge you to bring forward awareness with a more direct approach. I welcome the motivation or perhaps ambivalence that comes along with seeking treatment. There is no perfection in the layers that define us, just a journey of experiences & lessons that await discovery, growth and honor.

My name is Rick Vasquez, I work in Santa Clara County and I’ve spent the past 12+ years dedicated to serving those who seek guidance, reassurance and self-actualization through therapy. I work with those who feel stuck in life, struggling to summon the energy needed to address obstacles in their life now. I became a therapist because I genuinely love to connect with people and have a deep curiosity for all the experiences that led you to therapy. I also believe in directly addressing the concerns that weigh heaviest in your life so that you can begin to feel a sense of control and relief.

"When there's hope, there's a way"... I am an award winning author, international lecturer, consultant, and therapist for individual, couples, families, and children/adolescents, with a warm, non-judgmental and collaborative style. If your life is not as satisfying as it could be, and you have that secret wish things could be different, it may be worth trying to talk about it; sometimes a single meeting can make a difference and reconnect you with inner peace, fresh ideas, or a clearer, empowering direction.

Chronic exposure to interpersonal tension can negatively affect health and well-being. Living in a heightened physical state impacts our cognitive abilities, mood, self-esteem, ability to form healthy, stable attachments and is associated with increased risk of developing chronic health conditions. By using somatic and psychophysiological approaches to bring the whole self into the healing process, I support individuals whose lives have been impacted by adversity, chronic stress, and developmental trauma to prevent burn out, decrease anxiety, and build resilience so that they can navigate the ebbs and flows of daily life.

Hi, I'm Katerina Pogosov and welcome to Fire Poppy Therapy! Like the phoenix that rises from the ashes, the fire poppy blooms from it.  Fire poppies are a unique and rare native California plant that are found after there’s been a wildfire.  Their seeds begin to germinate after being exposed to fire and from there bloom into a brilliant fluorescent orange flower.  Our most challenging times don’t have to be the end of something, they can be a catalyst for an inner greatness that we have had dormant and forgotten about.  Let’s work together to use these personal wildfires as an opportunity to not just grow, but thrive and radiate.

As human beings, we are wired to be resilient; we find ways to adapt to our surroundings, solve problems, and navigate the challenges of daily life. And yet, we all face times when we struggle to access our inner strengths and start to feel unsettled, depleted, or overwhelmed. We may feel as though we are no longer thriving, but merely surviving.

Humanistic Therapists

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualization and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
