Along with Cognitive Behavioral, I use Humanistic, Gestalt and Attachment theories.
Are you feeling anxious or sad? Are you experiencing conflict with family members? Do you wish you could increase your self-esteem? I'm a compassionate therapist, who treats a wide variety of issues that affect your growth, functioning and relationships; each client is unique. I employ an eclectic approach, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as a framework. Together we will work to collaboratively set goals, and then look at ways your thoughts and actions effect your feelings and behaviors. My office provides a safe, comfortable environment in which to help you develop the skills necessary to achieve independence and empowerment.

My background is psychodynamic, but I draw from many other schools, including humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, and somatic.
You see yourself as a high-achieving person, but there are parts of your life that feel unbalanced. Perhaps there are self-destructive behaviors that are getting out of control. Or your relationships may be causing you grief. There may also be an empty feeling or nagging fears under the surface. Even if you are accustomed to solving things yourself, this may be the time to reach out for help from a professional who specializes in working with high-functioning clients like yourself. I offer a rare combination of two decades of experience in the MIT/tech world with substantial training as a psychotherapist.

My practice philosophy is centered on a humanistic approach that is interactive, engaged, and strategic.
Change starts with the first step. Insight paired with action drives lasting change. However taking the step to foster change in one's emotional life can be frightening and overwhelming. With me you will find a safe, caring environment, where together we travel a path of emotional discovery that will lead you to a better life. Based in West Hollywood, my practice is designed to help you understand yourself at a fundamental level, to give you tools and craft an approach that is healing and meets your specific needs. Building trust in the therapeutic journey, in an atmosphere that supports emotional growth and lasting change.

My framework is grounded in psychodynamic principles, and I also draw from humanistic, existential, and cognitive-behavioral orientations.
Is something holding you back from living at your full potential? Are you overwhelmed with intense feelings of sadness, anger, fear or frustration? If you are feeling stuck in patterns that are limiting you, or are navigating through a difficult life challenge, therapy can help you realize your true potential and reach your life goals. With assistance and support there can be healing and an increased level of awareness to self and the environment. You can feel better about yourself, and thrive in your relationships.

I use both psychodynamic and humanistic approaches to help you reach self directed goals.
Everyone has a life story filled with unique colors. Each color represents personal experiences, strengths, behaviors, relationships, and our inner world. Sometimes we find it hard to navigate through challenges and to face realities, which are unfamiliar and/or unexpected. Prior experiences may interrupt our current way of interacting, thinking, relating, and managing daily life. Stress contributes to increased anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, and relational issues. Trauma can debilitate individuals, couples, and families creating abrupt internal changes and fears. Grief over individual loss needs to be honored and acknowledged. Change occurs as a direct result of uncovering new insights.

I'm a humanistic & client-centered therapist.
Do you feel truly heard and seen in your relationships? Are you out of the closet, but still struggle with your identity? Does low self-esteem get in the way of living more authentically? Are you sober curious? Have you been harmed by religion, but want to connect more spiritually? Do you feel trapped in a pattern of choices that, while you recognize aren’t supportive, you continue making despite the negative consequences? I can relate. I’ve been there. It's not uncommon for gay men to experience the effects of heteronormativity. Which is why an affirming therapist can help foster resilience in a unique way.

While I prefer an eclectic approach, I have substantial training in CBT, DBT, Humanistic, and Psychodynamic theories.
There comes a moment in our lives when deep down we know we need to make a change. This moment often comes when we have felt enough pain, and are finally ready to face the discomfort of change. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, grief, or self-esteem - addiction, body image, love, or relationships - I am here to listen, normalize, and help you move through whatever you need to in order to feel the relief you crave.

I often apply concepts from Jungian Psychology, mindfulness, humanistic-existential theory, and a somatic perspective.
I am accepting new clients now! No one prepares you for how hard it is to be human. One could argue that anxiety and depression are appropriate responses to the absurd conditions of modern life. In order to thrive, human beings need connection with nature and a sense of community. However, so many fixtures of our culture isolate us from the natural world and from each other. It's my pleasure to collaborate with clients and explore how they might live more joyfully and authentically.

I see many clients who feel stuck and unable to alter their life in a way that reflects their values, causing them to feel sad, on edge, or numb. They are suffering a great deal, and often their needs seem unclear. I use a frank and kind style to empower clients to find meaning and hope as they navigate the complicated, often oppressive systems of our world. This process is one of uncovering patterns—which may feel difficult to articulate at the beginning—restricting clients from fully experiencing life. Once their needs and goals become clear, I help them build and sustain a more flexible and expansive way of living and connecting.

Humanistic Therapists

How does humanistic therapy work?

One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualization and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.

Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?

Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.

How long does humanistic therapy last?

The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is humanistic therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
