I enjoy working with clients from all backgrounds. I believe therapy is a collaborative process with the overall goal to achieve healthier balance and desired goals. Life has many challenges and we can all benefit from some support and guidance during difficult times in our lives. In my practice, I have worked extensively with individuals, couples, and adolescents. I work with the insights gained in therapy so clients feel validated and accepted, in their journey to achieve the lives they want to lead.

As a psychoanalyst I believe that an individual's feelings and behaviors are motivated by a variety of unconscious factors often resulting in people feeling stuck. Psychoanalysis helps individuals finally break these habits by understanding their root causes and enable significant changes at the very core of one's emotional responses. Using these experiences, the analyst helps the patient work on a deeply unconscious level to eliminate unproductive and destructive patterns. This opens the patient to new, fresh and genuine experiences and solutions in their lives. This process is achievable through empathy and respect.

Are there challenges in your life that seem so overwhelming that it seems you can't deal with them? Have you tried to make changes in your life, but haven't been able to do it on your own? Congratulations on taking the first step towards feeling better! I have extensive training in helping overwhelmed, stressed, and anxious clients and couples. I make it my goal to really understand and empathize with the challenges you are facing, and always come from a non-judgmental and warm place. I also enjoy working with men, helping men understand their feelings and their partners feelings so they can have the relationship they desire.

You aren’t quite where you thought you would be in life. Whether comparing yourself to others, experiencing a change in financial, mental or physical health, or pain and suffering in general, you are hesitant to make a change. Overall, you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or burnt out. Daily, it is hard to overcome the intrusive or negative thoughts and feelings. If experiencing a life transition, you feel alone or vulnerable to what are the right next steps. If in a relationship, maybe you find it challenging to talk about and it is starting to impact your relationship. You are exhausted, vulnerable, and ready for a change.

Waitlist open for appointments before 4pm. Waitlist closed for 4pm or after. Updated February 2024. I believe that good therapy involves a combination of a supportive and warm relationship plus science-based therapeutic techniques. Within this framework I consider each person’s unique situation, neurodiversity, and set of problems and then tailor my approach to you or your child’s needs. Therapy should be a collaborative process, and I try to bring a sense of humor and fun to my work with you or your family.

Hoarding Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for hoarding?

Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) has been well-studied in the treatment of hoarding. This type of therapy includes changing beliefs surrounding possessions, as well as learning how to discard items and reduce acquisitions. The hoarder may also gain much-needed organizational skills. Another useful therapy may be compassion-focused therapy, which can address emotion regulation and negative self-perception.

How long does therapy for hoarding take?

Although treatment can vary, most people demonstrate improvement after 23 sessions, with some showing improvement after just a few sessions. Researchers have developed a 26-session cognitive behavioral program. People who hoard may need “maintenance” sessions over the years if the problem arises repeatedly.

Are there medications for hoarding?

The more commonly-prescribed medications for hoarding are including antidepressants, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). This can include drugs such as venlafaxine and paroxetine. And because hoarding disorder is related to obsessive-compulsive disorder, medications for OCD, such as clomipramine, may be effective for hoarding as well.

Can hoarding come back after treatment?

Hoarding is a chronic disorder and it can last throughout an individual’s lifetime. Regularly checking in with a psychotherapist can help manage symptoms long-term. A good therapist will help the person learn needed skills including decision-making, organization, and stress reduction. The patient will gain a better perspective and the need to cling to useless items will lessen.
