Welcome and Hello, my name is Ofelia. I would like to share a little about who I am as a counselor. I realize engaging in counseling can be a big decision to make and there may be some hesitation when someone feels the need to seek a counselor. It is difficult to know what experience to expect. I would like you to know that as a counselor, I work collaboratively with clients, meeting them where they are at. I have had the honor of working and creating a safe space with an array of resilient individuals age levels from 12 to up that were working on managing (anxiety, depression, SUD, grief, family/couples, BIPOC, and LGTBQ).

Marady Duran is a Licensed Master Social Worker offering in-person counseling in the Boise community and telehealth counseling for the greater Idaho area and Oregon residents. She has a master’s degree in training and organizational development from Roosevelt University and a master’s degree in social work from Boise State University. She is certified in DBT, CBT, somatic trauma practices, and trauma-informed yoga therapy for sexual abuse and trauma survivors. She has experience working with adolescents, adults, the aging population, people at the end of life, and those dealing with grief.

We each have a purpose in life. We deserve to feel and be safe. During our most challenging times along with the many changes and stressors we encounter through our life journey, including past trauma, grief/loss, poor self-acceptance, mental health challenges, and now the current pandemic, we may begin to feel lost and confused. Moving forward may seem impossible, making us feel stuck. We can get caught in a power struggle with our emotions, trapped in our own discomfort and chaos and this may no longer benefit us. Together, we can work at creating healthier changes, life patterns to return you to the quality of life you deserve.

Accepting new clients. ‘How did I get here’. ‘How do I get out,’ are common thoughts we all have. We learn to survive and do the best in the worlds we have grown up in; and sometimes we find ourselves going round and round in a strange sort of ‘uncomfortable comfort’ or ‘functional dysfunction’ of our lives. I strive to see the world through your lens and understand your unique family, cultural, and identity experiences. In every individual exists a craving to embody a life unburdened by excessive guilt and shame, while having the freedom to enjoy a more meaningful and joyful human experience.

I work with individuals, ages 17+ while utilizing different techniques that help clients address personal concerns and heal through their trauma. Concerns can be daily stressors and demands of family life, while others can stem from deeper wounds of generational trauma that leave you feeling stuck. Patiently and compassionately, together we’ll navigate those core wounds and negative thought patterns.

I believe 80% of life is not about what happens to us, but instead is more about how we respond to it. Hence, it is not our problems that need the most help, but instead our solutions to those problems; it’s okay to be afraid. As a Behaviorist, I see "fear" of “something” as what drives our behaviors in life, i.e. fear in life demands control of life using a previously learned response. It is that perceived need for complete control where we tend to lose control of our most basic solutions and the need to respond differently arises; hence, we bring on change, with empathy for our vulnerabilities being at the forefront.

I see you. The past isn't all you hoped it would be. The future feels like a creaky bridge across a canyon. Presently; you're not entirely sure how to take your next steps or where those steps will lead you. It can be confusing, overwhelming and maybe even unbearable. So here you are. You're looking for answers. You're looking for something to help with "all of this."

In an ever-changing world, with so many hardships and challenges, I have dedicated my life to helping people make sense out of their struggles and find more peace. I believe in people, and believe that in a safe and supportive environment, with a skillful and responsible guide, people are capable of incredible accomplishments, leading to changes that enable more peace and joyful living. I believe that people develop maladaptive patterns of living and relating and that sometimes simple changes in habits, thinking, growing and understanding, can lead to happier, healthier lives and relationships.
