As a therapist I strive to provide a safe and nurturing space where you feel free to explore what it means to be you and navigate life’s struggles without judgement. Therapy brings us to some of our most vulnerable moments, and I make it my mission that you feel heard, validated, and free to discover, maybe for the first time or perhaps again, who you are and/or who you’d like to become. I help clients navigate ways to improve their lives while also treating trauma-related issues, grief, relational and interpersonal challenges, family of origin issues, depression, and anxiety.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, in a “funk,” lonely, or out-of-sorts? Do you feel you have to put on a face to show that you have it all together? Do you feel sadness or anxiety from past experiences or current events? Maybe it's hard even to pinpoint. It can be hard to ask for help, but coming here is a significant first step toward living a fuller, happier life. As a therapist, my goal is to provide a space where you can feel understood, supported, and empowered. I truly believe that effective therapy is grounded in a genuine and collaborative relationship between the client and therapist.

Life is full of choices and challenges, particularly the challenges in our relationships. It takes courage and support to make the choice to get to a healthier place or to end a toxic relationship. Maybe you've already tried to recover or discover a better version of you, and your best efforts didn't seem to work. What if there is another way...a better way to achieve the life you want?

There are times life becomes difficult. Obstacles present themselves and you just need guidance on how to overcome or cope with them. Situations may cause you to feel as if there is a loss of control of your life. Generational challenges, including trauma, addictions, communication problems, and stress could cause a once balanced lifestyle become chaotic. Life happens and everyone needs an advocate. For those times I am there to help clients, move forward and maneuver life, family, career, and social interactions.

Life gets messy sometimes. Whether it be due to trauma, a conflictual relationship, or even our own feelings that seem to come out of nowhere, there are times when we find ourselves "stuck" and wondering why we can't seem to manage at our full potential. The good news is that real and lasting change is possible. In my over fifteen years of experience, I have seen individuals and families heal, grow, and thrive at a level that surprised even themselves. If the hard stuff in life is seeming heavy, I would love to come alongside you to help you create a path to reaching your goals.

Are you struggling with unhealthy thoughts, self-image, or relationship challenges? Imagine if your life could change due to your thought process. Thoughts have the power to influence feelings and behaviors. Many people hold an unhealthy view of themselves and the world around them. This can cause anger, guilt, shame, anxiety, or even fear.

I believe people of all ages experience problematic situations or events that create the "Core Beliefs" we hold deep inside. These beliefs can help you feel more confident in the person you want to be while the negative core beliefs can hold you back from growing and living a happy and satisfying life. Clients I see want to know the why or what happened to me that holds me back from being the "real me". I want to give and receive love. I want to be honest with myself and with the people I love. I want to be heard and not judged. I just want to find happiness, acceptance, and pride in myself versus living in shame, anger and fear.

Brené Brown once said, "Let go of who you think you're supposed to be. Embrace who you are." I would love to walk with you on this journey of embracing who you are as an individual, and who you want to become. Healing is never easy, but you will never have to do it alone. I have a huge passion for seeing people heal and grow into the person they didn’t feel they could become. I strive to create a safe space for anyone who takes the courageous step to share their story with me, as I know this is not an easy ask from anyone.

We all embark on the journey of life at the same starting point. We travel down the road before us, trying to carve out a path that will lead us to the kind of life that will bring us joy. However, there are times when that path leads us off the course of happiness and fulfillment, and into the unexpected. I enjoy working with individuals with traits and tendencies of attachment that manifests by way of questioning self-worth, feeling unworthy of love, fear that healthy relationships cannot exist, obsession with loss and difficulty moving forward, taking on others feelings and beliefs as your own, guilt/shame.

Struggles with confidence, insecurities, unaddressed trauma, inappropriate coping skills and a host of other barriers keep us from living the best version of lives. These issues can result in anxiety, depression, impulsivity, disassociation and other mental health issues that do not serve us. In turn, these factors interfere with our ability to adapt during life transitions and engage in healthy relationships with those around us. However, this doesn't have to be your reality.

I find that the empathy and safety experienced in therapy can be transformative in the way that we view our past experiences and our past selves. I most enjoy working with emerging adults and those between the ages of 25-50. Most of my experience involves working with survivors of complex trauma. My professional interests also include working with those experiencing family of origin difficulties, anxiety, depression, existential dilemmas, religious trauma/Christian deconstruction, and post-traumatic stress symptoms. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and am affirming of non-monogamous relationships.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Memphis?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
