Do you feel stuck, unable to move toward your goals or desires and you are not sure why? Are there moments when you hear a sound, a phrase or smell and your body instantly shuts down? When we experience significant trauma, abuse or dehumanizing messages in our lives even the most driven individual can struggle to "get over it." Are you looking for freedom to be who you truly are or discover your true self despite everyones expectations of you? Are you looking to better understand why you react to certain situations? Or why sometimes you feel like quitting even though you don't know why?

in Clinical Psychology informs a relational, neurobiological approach to depression, anxiety, trauma.
Life prompts us toward growth and health, leading us to change thoughts, feelings, behaviors, or beliefs that keep us from peace and joy. Difficult childhood or adult experiences may disrupt our ability to connect well with our emotions and deepest heart's desires, making it challenging to have satisfying, healthy relationships. For over 20 years I have helped individuals and couples to heal old wounds and grow past outworn patterns into greater freedom and heart connections. Are you ready to answer life's call to grow? I offer myself as a trustworthy companion in the next phase of your life's journey.

I also enjoy working with individuals (tweens, young adults and women) struggling with hardships around trauma, self-image, shame, grief, life transitions and pregnancy/postpartum issues.
Take a deep breath. What do you notice? Maybe it's a heaviness on your shoulders from the worry that kept you up all night. Maybe it's tension on your neck knowing you're walking in the door to another fight with your significant other. Perhaps it's emptiness in your chest from the shame that has been there so long it has left you feeling numb. Although I am not sure exactly what brought you here, I wonder if you are seeking relief. Seeking change. Hoping for something, perhaps anything, different. Different in you, in your marriage, in your child or maybe your whole family. I am glad you're here.

Although I primarily practice through a psychodynamic foundation, I offer approaches that support healing from trauma through Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), as well as creating healthier relationships through Attachment-Based Therapy, and helping you manage and break free from eating disorders through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
If you are here, I imagine you may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or you are unsure what you may be feeling. Whether you have been to therapy before or considering trying it for the first time, I am committed to helping you identify and remove the barriers of eating disorders, trauma, depression, anxiety, addiction, life transitions, relationship issues, and problematic sexual behaviors. I will work with you to remove these barriers by establishing a safe, empathetic, and supportive environment. In addition, I will work to facilitate a strong therapeutic relationship, which I find to be a catalyst of change.

I have worked with individuals, families, and couples struggling with trauma, sexuality, eating disorders, domestic violence, anxiety, and depression.
You may have landed on this professional profile because you are taking stock of your life and realize that the life you have is not the one you envisioned for yourself. Whether you are bored or in a lot of pain, you may be seeking growth and change, possibly a sense of aliveness. Counseling can be a safe, nurturing setting to slow down and listen to your soul and your body. As you become aware of yourself, you begin to understand how you got to where you are, why you do what you do, and what new paths are possible to you. As a trained therapist from a relational-psychodynamic perspective, I see therapy as a collaborative process.

I work with individual adults and couples and am trained in trauma treatment and have taken advanced training in grief counseling.
I believe therapy is an opportunity to be compassionately curious about ourselves – to reflect on our experiences, patterns, losses, traumas, and relationships, and consider how they impact our wellbeing and our sense of self. I want to support you in your process of tending to the pieces of yourself and your story that often feel sticky or unapproachable and offer a space to explore ways to find peace and a sense of grounding. If you’re going through a major loss, experiencing anxiety/depression or noticing patterns in your relationships, I am here to witness your insights and strengthen your connection to self.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
