I work with patients focusing on anxiety , depression, grief, life transitions, stress, anger, addictions, relationships, multiculturalism, and Christian counseling.
You can’t control the challenging factors you are faced with in life but you can be empowered by how you perceive and respond. Difficulties, trials, struggles, pain, and grief are unavoidable even if you perceive to make the "right" choices. Life can be hard sometimes and unfair. Even the daily stressors of work, career, family, responsibilities, life transitions, difficult relationships, and lack of expectations being met can weigh you down. You live life through experiences, and experiences are understood through your perceptions. When you develop the tools to manage your perceptions, you can also manage those experiences.

My clinical expertise includes working with individuals who have a history of trauma, anxiety , depression, relationship issues, cultural issues, transitional issues, and chronic pain.
Everyone has a story. I want to hear yours. My experience as a therapist has led me to find this approach as a very effective one in bringing the transformation that people seek. Many of my patients have been surprised at how comfortable yet profound the therapeutic process has been for them. Yes, it does take hard work and personal commitment. But you won't be doing this alone. I am trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, viewing our therapeutic relationship as central to the change process.

Aloha, my name is LaVon, and I want to first say great job on taking the first and necessary step to address your challenges. Therapy can provide you with the space you need to safely and openly explore your experiences of trauma, conflict, and loss. Addressing these experiences in therapy without the stigmas and fear of judgment can be useful in alleviating stress, anxiety , anger, and depression. The relationship that ensues between the client and therapist along with the client's strengths, insight, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, facilitates growth toward goal achievement for the client.

I have a desire for helping my clients release themselves from the strong holds of bondage due to depression, anxiety , PTSD, and low self-esteem.
Do you find yourself burdened with repetitive thoughts of “Why can’t I escape my past?” or you can’t seem to escape the guilt or shame associated with a past traumatic event? Do you find it nearly impossible to find peace? These very things rob us daily from experiencing joy, confidence, happiness, peace, and healthy relationships. Relationships are my passion, especially those concerning individuals suffering from issues related to communication, addiction, sexual abuse, loss of identity, intimacy, marriage/divorce, depression, and broken trust. Each individual, in my opinion, is unique and my approach is tailored case specific.

Areas of specialty include, ADHD, anxiety , depression, family conflict, parent training, and trauma to name a few.
Initially, people may feel reluctant to seek out therapy to address their concerns. They may worry that it is a sign of weakness, and that they're the only ones dealing with issues. This is not true, the fact that you're seeking out therapy is a sign of strength and maturity. I am compassionate and laid back, which typically makes it easier for client's to engage in the therapeutic process. I strongly believe in establishing a collaborative relationship with my clients, so that we can discover your concerns, set goals, develop treatment plans, and empower you.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
