Often times in therapy, issues are addressed superficially only. This leads to a recurrence of episodes where the patient seems to improve but never really resolve their issues. A psychodynamic approach targets the roots of the problems, not simply the symptoms. My aim is the core, the starting point of it all, and from there work to resolve whatever else stems from that origin. My goal is for the patient to live a wholesome, functional, but above all, a meaningful life.
A profound understanding of personality is crucial for developing an adequate treatment. Every disorder has a different presentation depending on the underlying personality structure of the patient (notwithstanding the general features of the disorder). Therefore, the treatment has to take into account the totality of the person. I start with the patient.
