Every human being deserves to derive a sense of value from their lives, and it is my belief that this goal is achievable wherever you are along the way. I believe we are made stronger because of, rather than despite, the adversities we face. In our time together, you can expect a heart-centered space to navigate your healing journey and to explore the parts of your experience that you wish to address. Together we will focus on cultivating a relationship that empowers you to deepen your self-awareness, improve your ability to cope, and boldly face the challenges that prevent you from fully realizing the life you imagine.

My ideal client is someone who is open to the therapeutic process, interested in becoming more self-aware and who makes an effort inside and outside of my office. I look for thought and behavior patterns to offer clients a fresh perspective on themselves and on why they operate in the ways that they do. Once we identify contributing factors, we can initiate change. I tend to hone in on my clients' strengths and find ways to maximize and utilize them in their lives. I also hope to offer a peaceful environment for us to build a strong therapeutic relationship.

In my practice, I provide a safe and inclusive space where you can critically examine your challenges, find strength, and embrace your true potential. My approach is rooted in compassion, cultural sensitivity, and evidence-based techniques tailored to your specific needs. Therapy is meant to be a relationship where we can say the things we don’t normally say aloud and practice the habits we want to build and use in our daily lives. Our therapeutic relationship is the judgement-free zone in which you can learn and practice how to voice your needs, set boundaries, and own your power in your relationships.

Sometimes you know exactly what the problem might be, and other times it feels more confusing and elusive. I specialize in working with preteens, teens, and young adults in exploring, making sense of, and moving through their beautifully complex internal worlds. I believe that past experiences and relationships have a profound impact on how we see the world and move through it. Using a variety of effective treatment approaches tailored to each unique individual, we will explore how your lens has helped protect you in the past while also identifying new ways the pattern can be shifted to better serve you moving forward.

You know yourself well enough to gauge that you need more support with immediate stressors, self-limiting patterns, or unresolved childhood issues, so you're here looking for a professional. Congratulations! You've already exhibited three elements of a successful therapeutic outcome: increased self-awareness, self-advocacy, and motivation to change. Here's me: I earned an MSW from NYU, trained in evidenced-based practices for trauma/EMDR. studied Poetry Therapy at The Creative Righting Center, completed a Maternal Mental Health Intensive at the Seleni Institute, and in 2020 registered as an Out-of-State Telehealth Provider in FL.

As a therapist, I prioritize building a genuine therapeutic relationship grounded in empathy and compassion. Our bodies hold trauma and stress accumulated over our lifetimes. My practice integrates EMDR, mind-body modalities, and talk therapy to help clients cope with current stress and heal from trauma. Our life experiences also lead us to develop unhelpful thoughts and beliefs. I empower my clients to recognize and adapt their unhelpful thoughts patterns, giving them the tools to thrive.

I work with men, women, and couples over 18 years of age. No matter what your reason is for seeking therapy, you deserve someone to witness your truth without reaction. You might be unsure whether you’re justified being in therapy or tell yourself that things aren’t really that bad and that you’re okay. But allowing someone to just be there with you creates the space to look at your expectations, thoughts, and feelings, and see what you want to do with them. It's valuable for someone to be part of your journey to help you explore what your narrative is and how it is affected by patterns and dynamics that affect all of us.

I completed my Ph.D. in clinical psychology as well as post-doctoral training in psychotherapy and contemporary psychoanalysis at New York University. I have been in private practice for over twenty years, treating adolescents and adults from a variety of backgrounds. Respectfulness, clarity and directness, tempered by humor characterize my exploratory work. In a flexible and pragmatic manner, I aim to alleviate symptoms and problems in living in the briefest possible time. Although not a sufficient reason to remain in therapy, a regular benefit is the pleasure and pride in an examined life.

Bryant has been working with people to improve their personal and professional lives for over 20 years. He is a licensed psychologist in New York and Colorado. Bryant works with individuals and couples. He has an emphasis on wellness and increasing life satisfaction. Bryant believes that distress generally arises because of habitual ways of thinking, feeling and behaving that limit our potential to either recover from difficult life situations or simply maximize our personal and professional fulfillment.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in New York?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
