My years of experience in the mental health field have led me to work with people often drowned by worry, depression, and who feel hopeless about their ability to change. I work to help individuals develop skills aimed at decreasing the power of negative emotions and increasing the presence of other emotions that are often edged out, such as joy. In the words of Jon Kabat-Zinn, "You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf" therapy can help provide you with the tools you need to surf on your own through life's challenges. I have training in treating perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and emotion dysregulation disorders.
I view treatment as a collaborative effort and provide individualized care looking at the whole person, your strengths, resources, and the environment around you to help you build a life worth living. You can make meaningful changes in your life without needing years of therapy. I have afternoon, evening, and some weekend availability.
I am the clinical director/owner of ACT Kalamazoo, which allows me to use my experience and training in these evidence based approaches in a private practice setting: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Informed (individual, not comprehensive), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
