Heather McMillen, MEd, LPC, Licensed Professional Counselor in Alexandria
Life is meant to be enjoyed, not endured, right from the start we will work towards producing positive change. My counseling philosophy involves joining with you and helping you move forward. I work with adults and adolescents, women and men in a cognitive/ solution-oriented way. I have extensive experience treating anxiety disorders and helping people understand that there is relief from how they are currently feeling. I believe approaching the issue from a mind/body perspective helps improve understanding and acceptance of the symptoms you are experiencing.
In a confidential and safe setting, we can focus on the present situation, family relationships, and life stressors. Therapy helps you understand the sources of distress, enhance coping strategies, and utilize strengths. Our first meeting will be a time to understand if we are a good fit for each other.
I have a specialized interest in helping women during pregnancy, birth and afterwards. I can assist women interested VBAC births, those who have experienced birth traumas and women who are experiencing anxiety and or depression around pregnancy, birth and motherhood. In addition I work with clients who are experiencing infertility.
