Hi, my name is Heather Hammock and I am a licensed professional counselor in VA. I see moms and young women that are stressed, anxious, depressed, and struggling with various life issues. I do good work with moms that struggle with perinatal mental health issues (ppd/ppa). If you're a mom and you are feeling challenged by your kid's behaviors, managing your schedule, or finding a way to take care of yourself, I'm likely a good fit! Before opening my own practice, I spent almost 10 years working with college students. I still loving working with young women who are not mothers.
I use evidence-based strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, EMDR (EMDRia Trained), Mindfulness, and I teach psychoeducation on interpersonal neurobiology + the polyvagal theory. I have advanced training in perinatal mental health issues through Postpartum Support International.
I know how challenging it can be to be a mom or young woman and juggle all of the to-do's in life; it's really hard! I love teaching my clients the different strategies that have helped me, like self-compassion. Please reach out if you think I may be a good fit!
