I believe that strength is not defined by burying our feelings, “keeping your chin up,” or other cliche sayings that encourage silence. True strength is being vulnerable, talking about how you feel, and yes, asking for help. If you are ready to look at whatever is hurting you, whatever is interfering in your relationships, and whatever is keeping you from the life that you want to live, THAT is strength and where your true power lies.

Imagine living your best life! We all face challenges and difficulties in life. For some it is trauma, others experience chronic health issues, not to mention day-to-day stressors of society's unrealistic demands and expectations. No one goes through life without experiencing the struggle. Our time together is spent exploring what is in the gap between where you are and where you desire and hope to be. Our time together is spent exploring what is in the gap between where you are and where you desire and hope to be. I guide individuals through the process to gain insight into what holds them back from realizing their goals.

You're looking for tools and strategies to live your best life, whatever that may look like for you. It's easy to get overwhelmed by life, relationships and stress. Sometimes it's a day-by-day struggle, and you never know for sure when a smooth stretch will turn into a rough patch. For some of us, maintaining good mental health is chronically difficult.

I want every couple who comes to see me to feel heard and seen as individuals and to gain fresh insight and tools for their relationship. I’m passionate about improving communication, healing areas of hurt and resentment in a relationship, and improving intimacy. I also love working with parents of autistic children to find joy in parenting neurodivergence and working with late-diagnosed (or suspected) autistic adults. My third specialty area is working with new moms struggling with intrusive thoughts, anxiety, depression, and changes to body image and relationships.

While we all strive to live a life full of joy, excitement, success and fulfillment, we all encounter times when our plans for ourselves get derailed. Some may struggle with relationships, mental illness, trauma, tragedy or life stage transitions. We all need some help during these times to help get back on the path to wellness and happiness. I believe that while these trials are difficult, they can also be used as stepping stones to help us become a better version of ourselves. How we face our challenges gives us the opportunity for personal growth. I would love to be the one to help you with that process.

Chronic Illness Therapists
How does therapy for chronic illness work?
Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.
Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?
Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.
What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?
No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.
How long does therapy for chronic illness take?
There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
