I am experienced with diversity issues faced by international, multicultural, and non-traditional families including members of the LGBTQ+ and TGNBGNC communities.
Life is change and, mostly, you've been rolling with the punches. But complicated life transitions can leave anyone at a loss. You might feel helpless, hopeless and alone in trying to cope with relationship issues and troublesome or debilitating symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, and obsessions. With nearly two decades of experience, I help adults and families like you navigate the turmoil of challenging life passages including death of a loved one, chronic or terminal illness, relationship issues, separation or divorce, or adjustments to a different job, culture, gender, or sexual orientation.

My approach is holistic, solution-focused, and affirming of multicultural, poly/ENM, LGBTQIA2+, and neurodivergent diversities.
Are you rocking that 'got-it-together' facade, but deep down you're really falling apart? You're not alone. Life's throwing punches, and the struggle is real. You're seeking direction and clarity, but you feel stuck, caught in self-doubt, and trapped in "stay or leave" dilemmas. The uncertainty is unsettling and you start questioning everything about your relationship…and yourself. Whether it's your marriage, career, or the sheer weight of everything around you—I get it. It's like having a hundred tabs open in your mind at once, making it hard to think straight and perform as you envision. You're exhausted. It's time for a change.

Being an immigrant myself, I love working with locals and immigrants from different backgrounds and work well with multicultural individuals and couples/dyads.
Do you feel you have it all/have enough, but do not feel satisfied, content, happy, or at peace? Do you want to find meaning and purpose in your life? Do you want to examine the root causes of your emotional suffering instead of putting a bandaid on your symptoms? If so, I invite you to schedule a 20-minute consultation with me to begin exploring your transformation. I can help you to learn to trust yourself, discern what you have and don't have control/responsibility over, and find your center/ true north, which you can utilize to make decisions more effectively and flow through life's ups and downs with more ease.

Growing up as a token Asian in the Midwest, raised by immigrant parents from two different cultures, I know first hand how being a multicultural minority in this country is both a beautiful, as well as confusing, experience.
I work with Asian American individuals and couples around relationship issues. Most of my clients are thriving in their careers, but they want more. They want meaningful and deep connections. They want to be seen and accepted for who they are. But as Asians living in the US, being seen and understood is often complicated by cultural misunderstandings, holding conflicting values and identities, communication differences, prejudice and racism, intergenerational trauma, and immigration issues.

I work with passionate people who deeply want to feel connected and loved, but find themselves hurting in relationships. My clients come from backgrounds where they weren’t taught healthy relationship skills, and they realize they're stuck in patterns they want to change, such as self-judgment or blame, self-sabotage, avoidance, relational anxiety, codependency, or abuse. My mindset is everyone is doing the best they can with what they know. With a curious mind and multicultural lens, I help make meaning of your experiences, shed light on what exists outside your awareness, and help you learn new ways of feeling connected and loved.

I love working with multicultural couples and couples where one or both partners are HSPs, have ADHD or trauma.
Are you struggling with relationships? Are you having the same fight with your partner over and over? Have you lost the emotional connection you used to have? Intimate relationships touch our deepest relational wounds. That's why we can be overwhelmed with the pain they bring and often, at points, feel like giving up. We can heal those wounds and help each other in that process. The kind of couples therapy/marriage counseling and individual therapy that I provide combines deep experiential work with teaching, coaching and practicing many specific relational skills that will set you up for success in all your relationships.

My background is multicultural and diverse.
The most important thing in working with me is your positive desire to change. Given that I'll bring you into the office, we will discuss your issues of concern and design and implement suggestions to create growth , understanding and lasting solutions. Many clients see me once for behavior change through hypnotherapy. Others see me for ongoing psychotherapy appointments. Some clients combine both modalities to insure continued growth and change. I am optimistic about the possibilities of health and healing through our work together. After forty years in practice I remain committed to my clients and their work with me

I am Japanese with a multicultural upbringing across Europe, Japan and the US, bringing a unique perspective to the impact "difference" has on our lives and wellbeing.
We all have moments in our lives when we need a little support. Even the most loving relationships can encounter bumpy roads, and thriving careers can at times become a major stressor. If you are here, you may be in that moment now - feeling stuck or overwhelmed in some way. I provide individuals, couples (and relationships of every kind) a place to slow down, take a breath and explore what’s going on and where you’d like to go. I also work with teens and young adults who are often under great pressure balancing school, life, and growing up, and offer a place to find their footing.

I also specialize in treating clients who struggle with multicultural issues and identity issues.
When we are exposed to trauma at an early age, it can seriously impact how we feel about ourselves and our relationships with others. Trauma can also profoundly affect whether we feel this is a safe world and can contribute to depression, anxiety, and relational/familial issues. My practice is from a strengths-based, trauma-informed perspective with a non-judgmental framework. I aim to understand clients’ internal responses and to provide more options for emotional regulation and problem-solving.

I utilize a multicultural framework while incorporating dialectical and cognitive-behavioral therapy, relational, and mindfulness-based techniques to help increase insight, acquire coping skills, and establish lifestyle changes to incorporate self-care practices to avoid suffering.
I am a culturally sensitive psychologist, author, and mental wellness public speaker in San Francisco, who will create a safe space that distinctively fits your needs to help on your journey toward healing and growth. I understand we often find ourselves feeling lost, overwhelmed, abandoned, or may be at a loss of how we feel, because we’ve arrived at that familiar place of despair and ruminating self doubt. My hope is to provide an opportunity to disentangle from suffering, which may lead to improved quality of life, greater satisfaction within relationships, increased productivity, and enhanced self-worth and compassion.

I provide a multicultural, attachment based, sex positive approach catering to each individual’s needs.
Modern dating and relationships have become a tumultuous territory of uncertainty, miscommunication, rampant ghosting and infidelity. Friendships have become increasingly harder to navigate, and the desire to build and maintain community remains higher than ever. The state of the world has left us feeling helpless. We may feel disconnected from our families, our peers, our jobs, our personal identities, and our places in society. While it may be hard to process and express these experiences with others and even with ourselves... I am here with you.

Multicultural Therapists

What type of therapy is multicultural therapy?

Multicultural therapy is not tied to any specific therapy; rather, it is an overarching approach to therapy that aims to acknowledge and address the influence that factors like race, gender identity, and cultural background can have on someone’s life. Multicultural approaches can be applied to CBT, psychodynamic therapy, and others, and can be practiced with individuals, couples, families, or groups.

What can I expect from multicultural therapy?

Multicultural counseling should be tailored to the client’s unique identity and cultural needs. Such approaches often prioritize the building of trust so that the client feels comfortable exploring various aspects of their identity and any challenges caused by mismatches between their identity and the dominant culture. Beyond that, the format and timeline of therapy will be heavily influenced by the therapist’s preferred therapy approach and the specific problems for which the client sought therapy.

Can multicultural therapy help treat trauma?

Yes. Cultural factors such as racial background, gender identity and or sexuality, and immigration or refugee status can influence both whether someone experiences trauma and how they cope afterward. Multicultural approaches to trauma-informed care will be aware of these influences, helping the client recognize how their response to trauma may be shaped by their cultural background and identify coping mechanisms that take their identity into account.

What are the benefits of seeing a multicultural therapist?

Members of minority groups who seek therapy are sometimes frustrated by providers who don’t understand their cultural background or dismiss the ways in which race, gender, or other facets of their identity influence their lived experience. Seeing a multicultural therapist can help these clients feel seen, understood, and able to develop solutions to life challenges that take their upbringing, beliefs, and past experiences into account.
