I believe therapy to be an important and sacred space in which people can unburden themselves and work through anything they may struggle to process. It's a place in which they can be completely honest and open up about any issues that are difficult to talk about with others, like sharing their unique perspective or receiving validation for their feelings. There are many things that come up in therapy, and I take a completely non-judgmental approach toward discussing these emotions, allowing clients to find their own ways forward from their starting points.
For me, the goal of therapy is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space to allow my clients to process what they have been through, who they would like to become, what changes they would like to make (or not make), and find a path forward from where they started in session. Together, we make space for all feelings.
I help clients work toward their therapeutic goals while also allowing them to add new ones as they come up. I never create the goals on my own, but we work on the clients' goals together. I just provide a little push forward when it's tolerable to advance the work.
