Life is full of challenges and unpredictable, we can’t always mitigate or control these; the key is to be aware of our maladaptive behaviors and build strength by enhancing our awareness and creating a new path for ourselves, family, and/or couple. We understand that not everyone can heal and cope the same way.

I attended the Boston University School of Social Work and have 20+ years of experience. I received training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, however I use an eclectic approach when working with my clients. I choose the skills that are most appropriate in meeting a client where he or she is at, which include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, supportive psychotherapy, trauma informed treatment, and spiritual counseling.

As an Acute/Critical Care Nurse Practitioner, I was not cognizant of the impact of mental illness on family and society, until I decided to pursue a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Degree. I believe that societal stigmatization of mental illness, and the shame felt by families who have a loved one with mental illness, makes it difficult for these patients to recover, and live peacefully for the rest of their lives. Psychiatric illness should be treated like a medical illness with no stigma, no blame or shame.

I currently work with only adults and couples. I work with clients who need to work on symptoms such as anxiety, depression, agoraphobia, academic problems, anger management, bereavement and grief issues, communication problems with family members and partners, self-esteem, separation and divorce, sleep disturbance, work stress, and much more. I use Cognitive behavioral therapy, systems approach, relaxation, and guided imagery. I also provide assertiveness training. I also use Clinical Hypnosis for weight loss, smoke cessation, nail biting, and other behavioral changes. I also do Christian counseling with focus on spirituality.
