I believe that therapy is about feeling understood. My job is to give you this feeling in session with me, and to help make it an enduring feature of your life when you are not in the room. I do this by listening, with care and curiosity, to whatever you want to tell me, by pointing out the instances when you get in your own way, and by letting you know that, no matter how great the difficulty you are facing, we can explore it together.
I practice in English and Spanish and have experience with clients struggling with early life neglect and abuse, complex trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, narcissistic and borderline personality disorders (BPD), and issues of sex and sexuality. A focus of my work is how deep personal tragedies can become sources of creativity, strength, and connection.
In addition to being a therapist, I am a scholar of disability, death, and dying. I draw on this in my therapeutic work with people with disabilities and complex medical conditions, family caregivers, healthcare professionals, and students and academics. I am in training at the Saint Louis Psychoanalytic Institute, and offer psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.
