Every life is a story; past and present events that are not coupled with emotional resolution can stay stuck in the mind in a negative way. The focus of my practice is the "silent suffering", those whose lives appear good to the outside world, but inside, something feels off, empty, or lonely; clients carry a significant level of discomfort with their own emotional landscape. This discomfort can show up as anxiety, depression, or ruminating and obsessing over past events/conversations. My clients often have a "speaking up problem" and they self-medicate with alcohol, food, shopping, etc. Whatever the habit, there is often shame.
My clients are stuck in earnest loops, trying to break these habits, but the situation does not self-correct. My work involves helping clients decrease these habits by developing an understanding of their driving root. Clients develop a more compassionate lens towards themselves, and I give them guidance in asserting themselves in relationships.
My core training is in existential therapy. I use the new modalities such as IFS and new beliefs (addiction is a brain disease, not a character flaw) to manifest change. I have been in the field for 25 yrs. In the first 10 yrs, I did EAP work (doing short-term therapy, crisis response and coaching management). The last 15 yrs have been in private practice.
