As a client, I know that therapy can sometimes feel like a chore. Sure, it’s a designated place to process painful life experiences, learn better ways to manage whatever life throws at you, but still may be more tempting to sweep it all under the rug instead. "If I don’t talk or think about it, did it even happen"? I've certainly been there, sometimes I still am. I think that mindset comes from a place of not wanting to be witnessed when you are not feeling your best. As a therapist, I enjoy the work the most when clients finally reach a moment they realize they don't have to put up a front anymore, because all emotions are welcome.

Therapy is a place where we do not pretend or sugar coat things anymore. It's feeling safe enough to call each other out and be real without having to conform to the socially acceptable ways of being. Where you express your true self in such a free, unedited, raw form, which is healing in itself, as most of us never had the opportunity to do so elsewhere.

Therapy is where you feel accepted with all parts of you, especially the ones you’ve kept hidden and tamed for so long out of fear of rejection. I love seeing those parts come alive, expressive, assertive, unhinged in the therapy room, so we can get to know ourselves on a deeper level, examine and cherish these valuable parts once deemed unpresentable.
