My name is Gwen Sexton. I hold my License in Marriage and Family Therapy. I carry advanced training in therapies used to treat a variety of mental health challenges – further detailed below. Personally, I am a wife and mother of two. I practice a modern and well-researched model of therapy known as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I love ACT and so do my clients because we use creative methods to help our clients adapt to their thoughts and emotions with mindfulness, openness to experience, and developing personal values.
In session, you’ll find I take the focus away from the labeling of problems – which isn’t productive - and focusing instead on adding skills and direction to people’s lives. As your therapist, my goal is to provide a warm, engaged, and accepting environment in all our meetings together.
I care deeply about making the most of our time together in session, therefore, as sessions progress I may at times use structured and engaging activities, insightful reflections about patterns and progress, and if called for, confrontation.
