My approach is client-centered, strengths-based and combines psychoanalytic and relational theory, cognitive-behavioral theory and may even include hypnotherapy for more intractable issues.
At one time or another, any one of us may feel overwhelmed, anxious or depressed. We may feel we are alone in our suffering or going through something no one else can understand. We may turn to drugs, alcohol or reckless behaviors. Our relationships suffer, our identity and self-worth collapse, and the vision we have for a happy, fulfilled future seems impossible to achieve. For many, therapy provides the guidance, skills, support and insight to unravel the source of suffering and change limiting thoughts, beliefs and behaviors into healthy, adaptive ones.

Footprints was started by a therapist who realized that often times the services provided to low socio-economic communities is lacking quality care. We noticed these communities were confronted with long wait times, disrespectful admins, and subpar treatment. The one and only purpose was to exploit the community for profit without providing the level of care deserved. Feel Better Therapy began from the inspiration to provide quality mental health care to the poorest of communities and treating the clients of this community the same way a rich patient would be treated in a clinic treating affluent clients.

Change is hard. I am so PROUD of you for taking the first step to seek help because let's face it, admitting you need help and asking for it, is really hard. My goal is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you to sort through the pieces and find your power again. I find it important to build an authentic relationship where there can be validation and some gentle challenging to help you grow into the version of yourself that you want to be.

My specialty is blending CBT and traditional talk therapy (psychodynamic therapy).
You are not alone - if you're feeling more anxious, sleepless, or depressed than usual. These are very difficult times that we're living in. If you've been putting off starting therapy for a while, or if your concerns are new, now is as good a time as any to get support from a mental health professional. Together we can change the negative self chatter in your head and find a new and healthier narration and view of yourself.

Waitlist for new clients
I primarily utilize insight-oriented and cognitive behavioral therapy frameworks but ultimately use an integrative approach.
Choosing a new therapist can be intimidating, whether it’s your first time or you’ve been in therapy forever. I respect this and try to make the process of starting therapy one that feels as comfortable as possible from our first session. I believe the most important part of being human is our ability to empathize with others, and therapy should be a space where we can tell our story and truly feel heard, understood, and validated.

In addition to CBT, I help my clients cope with existential issues, focusing on death, lack of meaning, isolation, and the fear of making important choices.
My practice consists of helping my clients become more effective actors in their lives. In the service of these goals, I teach them how to become better critical thinkers, (working together on creating healthy beliefs about themselves, others, and their environments), providing the mental tools required for emotional regulation and a fulfilling life. Additionally, we work together on understanding the past and present sources of troublesome behaviors and reducing them; this approach is called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. And, I specialize in a form of CBT called Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), used to treat OCD.

I am an LCSW with a certificate from the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center. I have extensive experience working with adults from various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and have treated individuals diagnosed with everything from bipolar to borderline personality disorder.

Through my work with clients, I strive to build confidence in each individual to focus on their own strengths so that they may actively participate in the problem solving process. In therapy, I establish a teamwork framework to empower individuals to take control over what is decreasing the quality of life. Using cognitive behavioral therapy, art therapy, and other approaches, I seek to target each individual need of my clients in order to promote independence, improved relationships, learned coping skills, and and overall refined lifestyle.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
