Are stress, anxiety, depression, ruminating/obssessive thoughts keeping you from being your true self and living the life you want? Are you dealing with past traumas that continously present themselves in your present-day life? I can help you to break out of dysfunctional unconsious patterns that are keeping you stuck, and work collaboratively with you to start developing steps towards postive, lasting changes. I primarily use a treatment called Accelerated Resolution Therapy which can help facilitate lasting changes in relatively few sessions. (I am a New York and Connecticut-based clinical psychologist)

I understand that life can be a difficult and trying journey. By receiving the appropriate help and skilled guidance we are better able to weather life's difficulties and gain understanding into our situations. This in turn will allow us to live better lives. My practice of psychotherapy is a broad brush which includes, but not limited to, trauma, addiction and gender issues. My work incorporates the use of EMDR, CBT, gestalt therapy, visualization and mindfulness training. As a psychotherapist, I am committed to my own growth. I feel this offers me continued insight not only within myself, but with my clients as well.

Not accepting new clients
I'm not currently accepting new clients at this time. Life sometimes takes us down a path that can be difficult, uneasy, and sometimes quite painful to deal with. Working together, we will create a safe, comfortable environment to help you walk down that path with a sense of hope that things can get better.

Are you a person of faith who has been experiencing difficulties in life? Have you found yourself asking, "If God is all-good and all-powerful, why is there so much evil in the world, and in my own life?!" Have your emotions taken a turn for the worse? Do you find yourself depressed and/or anxious - more often than not? Have you been turning to alcohol and/or drugs to "kill the pain?" Are you plagued by, or living in, the past, and/or filled with fear and uncertainty regarding the future? Finally, do you want to find a way out of all the overwhelming & frustrating emotions that have been putting your life on "pause?"

I believe that my clients are the experts and my goal is to guide them in understanding the "why," "how," and "what's next." I believe that even in our darkest times we all have strengths that can help us achieve the goals we want within our relationships with ourselves and the others in our life and my role in the therapeutic process is to guide you towards those strengths so together we can bring back into light they deserve. I like to go at my client(s) pace so to not push or create unattainable expectations.

I work hard to meet my clients where they’re at, recognizing that our existence doesn’t happen in a vacuum – our identities have an impact on the way we move through the world and the supports and resources we have access to while we do so. My approach to therapy is made up of a combination of motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, solution-focused techniques, and harm reduction, but I am always learning and growing along with the needs of my clients.

Drug Abuse Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
